Well, you need to break in the engine properly. If this is not done your motor will poop on you very fast. so thats about 5 tanks to break it in. You will need a glow starter to start it up for the first few times, fuel, batterys for the EZ start (if has on) betterys for the controller, and 2 batterys for the cars receiver. Thats about it. If you have any other questions just ask! And me are another expereanced Nitro User will help you!

once again, rusty is wrong, the receiver needs 4 AA's the transmitter needs 8 and it has a roto start not ez start which needs a recharable cell pack. you also need an igniter about 5 glow plugs and i think you are set besides fuel and a fuel bottle!

*shakes head in disgust*

You will need a 6 cell battery to power the Rotostart. I suggest a 1500 MAH sport battery pack. You will also need a charger. The new Dynamite Vision Peak 2 looks hot!! You will also need 8 AA batteries for the transmitter, and 4 for that go for the receiver. Having a couple extra glow plugs is always a good idea. Right after break in is when you should change to a new plug. Be sure to check with someone on what plug you get. You will also need a glow igniter. Get a rechargeable one. It will save you a lot of headaches.
The whole RTR in 5 minutes BS is total BS. Unless you dont take the time to give the whole truck a once over, loc-tite all the metal to metal screws, and break the truck in, it will run in 5 minutes, and probably will ONLY run for 5 minutes before something goes wrong. Yes, thats right, loc-tite all the screws, besides the ones that thread into plastic.
There are a few items that aren't required to run the truck, but are a must have. A quality fail safe should be the first hop up on your list. In case of a loss of signal, it will save your truck from taking off on its own. Another thing should be a good temp gun. They will help you to tune your engine, but your total tuning shouldn't be based off the temp gun. The last thing is a good quality receiver battery pack, 5 cell if you can. It will provide longer time between reciever battery changes, provide more power to the servos, and make the servos faster. It will also save you money in the long run.

????

I have had a Roto Start for a while now, and have never messed up a bearing. I bought one when they first hit the market, and have been using the same one this whole time. The good thing about the rotostarts is that they will fit the stock Savage motors , as well as XTM and Ofna motors.

Go to www.towerhobbies.com and look up the new Ofna micro fail safe. Venom also makes one. You can get the Venom at www.acehardwarehobbies.com

I first got the OFNA fail safe 'cause it was so tiny. But once installed, it often kicked in when the radio link was PERFECT, so I sent it back for the new Venom one, which is almost as small as the OFNA. Everything's been fine since.

I actually read about others having problems w/the OFNA unit over on the Radio RCU board, so I'd definitley go Venom (per a RCU moderator, Nitroaddict, "The ofna version seems to be taking some flak lately. While most people i know that use it say its just fine, several hav reported problems with it causing a fault, and glitching. something to be aware of"

The OFNA WAS a bit more sophisticated though, as you set it by pushing a tiny button & then activating your transmitter (apply brake) to get the exact response you want. I believe this also let me set the SPEED with which the brake activated, so you wouldn't slam the brakes & keel over.

With the Venorm you just turn a little screw to adjust the level of servo travel/brake force.

I guess you can give the OFNA a chance, in case they've worked out any bugs from what was a BRAND new item! As long as you can easily return it, you might want to cut OFNA some slack & give it a try, as they DO have an excellent "track" record.
