Mike,
It looks like quite a few of us have Evo's on backorder (in my case, a 12/synth TX only) and we're being told that they will not be available now until after the first of the year because of "quality control" issues.
Can you fill us in and give us an honest idea of what's going on, what the "quality control" issues are, and an honest idea of when we might expect Evo's to come into the US in any reasonable number?

I know that filling the supply line doesn't happen overnight, but in all the previous months since Hitec started bringing in the Evo's, it seems that only a handful have been delivered to customers. This seems to be a problem that has to do with more than just "filling the supply line".

Have you checled to see if your LHS can get you one? After becoming frustrated looking all over the web and only finding the EVO 9 synthesized available, I called my LHS, he checked with his supplier and to my shock, they had the EVO 12 synthesized in stock. I had him to order it for me and picked it up 3 days later. And for a better price than any dealer on the net was advertising, especially Tower Hobbies. The only problem I have had is getting the interface cable for it, but have the schematics for that and gonna build one this week after I get the required componets.

I don't know who told you that there was a quality control issue but there is none; we are just waiting on Multiplex. We are expecting several Evo's in mid December and the synthesized 12's are on the list so you should be able to get one if you have it on back order.

Who do you have it on back order with?

Mike.

Hmm, I've had a Evo 9 synth Tx on back order with NESailplanes since November. No word as of yet as to when the order might get filled. NESail is keeping tight liped with any info as to when the TX's will be available. Does no one have the RE 9 synth in stock?

April!!! I don't blame you for going with the 9zap. Enough is enough.
Tower Hobbies web site is listing the RE Synth as coming in late January T&G Hobbies is saying late April and NESail is now saying 2 to 3 weeks.

Who do you believe?

You can believe Mike Mayberry. He stated that very few Synth models came in and very few of them were 9's. He also said that there were quite a few fixed-crystal versions available and that all of those backorders would easily be filled. That's exactly what is happening.
As far as Tower is concerned, don't put too much faith on their stated times. All they do is to put out a time, then change it to a later time when that time is up. I didn't have time for that so I cancelled my order with them and put one in with NESail for an EVO12/synth. At least NESail didn't keep changing the story.
I am fortunate that I had my order in for only about 2-1/2 months with NESail which meant that I was second in line so I am getting the EVO12/synth I had on order. That also means that my combined waiting time ("lost" time at Tower and then time at NESail) was around 5+ months.

This radio IS worth waiting for, so what I would recommend is to buy one of the available (if you move fast) fixed-crystal version right now and then upgrade to the synth version later if you even need the synth capability. I read somewhere that T & G Hobbies has a bunch of the fixed-crystal in stock right now and they are offering to sell the synth module AT COST to those who buy a fixed-crystal model and want to upgrade later.
Bottom line is, if you want one now, you better get one while the current supply is available.

Mike says the next shipment will come in "around" March or April so if you're picky and want a particular model, you need to get it on order NOW for your best chance at being near the front of the line.

It'll be just about two months from the time I ordered to tomorrow when FEDEX is scheduled to deliver it
I was told at the time that I ordered that I was second on the list for that particular model (EVO12/synth TX only).
