Take a regular notebook sheet of paper, cut a strip twice as wide as the spur gear, and fold it in half. Hold the engine tight to the spur gear and pull the paper through the teeth by rotating the spur gear. 2 sheets of paper is about the perfect mesh for clutch/spur combo.

Now that it is adjusted, spin the spur gear to make sure it actually spins, with no binding. Another good thing to do is run it for a couple minutes and then bring it in and check it after making any sort of adjustments like that. Just take a peek at the spur gear and you will be able to tell if it's running tight.

Flick it with your finger. It should make a few revolutions without stopping. If it's binding, it won't spin.

Whoa dude! thats alot. I never saw a spur do that before. When I had my spur half as loose as that it would always strip the clutch bell. I started it for the first time in like a week, so it needed some tuning but it was going fine never slipped and no wear.
