I had originally intended fitting the supplied fixed undercarriage for the time being. But I've found that the u/c ply plate and wood block will need to be epoxied into position in the wings which may cause problems removing at a later date.
So I have now opted to fit a set of mechanical retracts which I've just received from the supplier together with a 7kg of torque retract servo.
And my 800 mAH flight pack will be upgraded to around an 1100 mAH pack.

A trial fit of the retracts shows that they fit accurately into the pre-cut support blocks.

Use a piece of cardboard to make a template for the mouldings!

The retract undecarriage legs are angled a few degrees forward so this will have to be allowed for before cutting out the wing area bu using the inner card template as a guide!

It's best to make the cut out a little on the small side and trim away afterwards to accommodate the mouldings!

Hi Macx.
You have served as inspiration for me. I've had this plane for over a year and decided that now is the time for assembly. Tigermoth will be finished in a week or so and the Spitfire will be next. Thanks for all the info and pictures.

The 1/16th balsa sheeting needs to be relieved a little to allow the retracts to sit flush on the hardwood blocks.

Check the leg alignment, drill 2mm pilot holes and screw the plate firmly into position!

The supplied hard foam wheels, whilst good quality, will not, imo, be effective from soft grass especially when wet. So I have substituted these for a better quality pair.

It's unfortunate that the wheels are on the inside of the legs and likewise the retracts do not close to the outer wings!

The supplied 1/16th ply spats are designed to fit the fixed undercarriage but not retracts. So I decided to make new ones.

I traced around the inner edge of the mouldings and transferred this to 1/16th ply by pinning the surface and joining the dots. Note the grain direction!

Trial fit the new ply profiles checking that the edges clear the moulding!

The last image shows one of the supplied fixed spats (left) and a modified one to accommodate the retracts!
