>>Macx,

I see you are painting the outside of the canopy frame.

Some of the guys at my club have suggested painting the frame struts from the "inside" of the canopy. They suggest that this would prevent any chipping of the paint on the canopy.

I suppose this is all fine and dandy, but you would thus still have the gloss from the plastic on the outside.

Any comments?

Zipperneck,

Each to their own way of doing things I guess!

However, I have used Flair olive green matt paint on the outside ( 2 coats needed). If the paint chips off a little then that's great.....it all adds a little extra scale detail!

The supplied dummy exhaust ports are made from ABS. You may decide to fit these or possibly make your own. Or leave them off completely!

1 & 2) The moulding needs to be trimmed off.

3) Then cut as shown.

4) I epoxied mine to the fuz. side and used a few drops of CA to tack into place!

The tail-wheel unit aasembly and installation is straight forward and should not cause any problems!

I am now waiting for a throttle ball-joint assembly, 90mm spinner and 3-blade prop. from the supplier, then the final assembly can be completed!

A little practice on the Real Flight G2 simulator can't do any harm. I can almost hear the Merlin engine singing!

Chris_s,

It's taken a while but the ball-joints for my throttle connection have finally arrived.

This is the first time that I've ever used a 4-stroke engine so this inset throttle connection is new to me.

1) I now find that the bolt suppied ( right in image) is too thick to go through the metal throttle arm so I've changed it to a thinner one as shown, which obviously needs shortening.

2 & 3) A metal to metal connection of throttle wire and arm is not wise as it can give rise potential radio interference. But in this case the plastic sleeve surrounded the ball-joint seperates the 2 metal surfaces but I need confirmation.

Is this okay before I fit into position?

Make sure that the bolt doesn't make contact with anything over the travel of the throttle arm. No binding anywhere. And that the push rod doesn't contact with anything as well, should work Fine!!!
What do you have this installed on?

RF interference comes from random relative motion of metal to metal contact, usually caused by engine vibration. Since you will tighten the bolt securely to the throttle arm, there will be no metal to metal motion, and therefore no RF noise!!

Thank you gentlemen....that solves the throttle connection query for me.

....and now onwards to the final stage of assembly!

Sorry Mac, missed your post been away, that link looks fine, of course, you could have drilled a larger hole in the throttle arm!

Whilst I was away my replacement kit finally arrived - yippee!! Just need to clear the bench to make way, currently finishing off a triple-engined Wot4.

Hi Chris,

My only concern with drilling a larger hole in the throttle arm is that my ASP .91 is brand new and , as yet, un-run. So if there should be a problem with it, though I doubt it, the engine warrenty would probably be void?

You state that your replacement kit has finally arrived which I assume is the Spit!. What was the problem with the original kit?

WARNING! Jamara planes are NOT made of good quality balsa BUT are constructed using a rubbish Vietnamese wood! Furthermore, they use their "own" glues and NOT good epoxy and CA.

A friend of mine was doing a very gentle landing with an A6 Texan and the landing gear went through the wing!!

Hi KINGX

I cannot comment on your colleague's A6 Texan as I have not seen that particular model. Perhaps it was an isolated incident! Are you sure that model was a Jamara ARTF? Did it have fixed or retactable undercarriage?
Regarding the Spitfire 60 I believe that some of my images show the wood quality and general standard of construction to be reasonably good considering that this kit is a budget priced ARTF!
However, the real test will come when the model eventually flies!

The Texan had fixed undercarriage and was one of the early Jamara ARTF. I know they are on the budget side , but i have seen quite a few sufferring structural failures while flying.
