You're exactly right aptar. That's the best answer yet and puts it all in a nutshell. I've long been against paying through the nose for something not worth the money. I've never bought an os glow plug of any type and never will as long as they cost as much as they do. BRAVO!!!

Don't get overly excited my friend

I guess we see things differently. I remember the peeling well, but don't seem to remember OS taking a "huge beating". The TT, ST, and Magnum followers came out and took a few jabs at the OS users for a while, while a few OS users got pissed. Most OS users got their engine fixed or replaced and still use OS engines to this day. As far as the legacy continuing I wouldn't agree with that either. I never hear mention about the peeling anymore. Do a search on RCU and it's not really brought up any more. In the end I don't think OS was effected by it nearly as much as you might think. They still sell tons of engines, glowplugs, etc. Overall they are very reliable, but I don't feel they are worth their added price. Many people do, I don't....... That just my opinion.

Yup more or less what has been said right along. The importer will charge as much as the hype will allow.

You can pay less AND get BETTER elsewhere.

Suffoco = strangle or choke
tyrannus = tyrant
vox = voice, authority or words
vitupero = disparage

I dunno, beats me, I tried

Hobbsy,
You are real close. You have the basics but of course the syntax will not allow for a word by word translation. Translation isn't always a good interpretation..

The reason anything is "so expensive" is because enough people are willing to pay that price on a regular basis. There is no incentive for them to lower the price if they are moving their inventory of plugs without a problem at that price level.

There is something magical about OS F plug. The one that came in my OS surpass 91 ten years ago is still working fine and anytime I think I should be replacing it I can not find any good reason. My LHS sell F plug for $6.50 and I have seen them on ebay for $5.95. Anybody charging you $11.95 is ripping you off royally.

Strangle or choke the diparaging voice of authoritarian tyrants? Or, loosely translated, you get what you over pay for?

You do get what you pay for but I haven't had to replace the $3.00 four cycle Fox Miracle plug in my Saito 150 in over a year. If I don't run it often or worse....run it lean, this plug may last for years also. There is no real or proved justification for OS glow plug prices. I watch inexperienced modelers burn them up all the time. They are not worth the extra price and I'm not about to search far and wide for a OS glow plug for $6.00.

I'm with fanc, the OS f only works better for people who think it does, for the rest of us who have both feet on the ground it does nothing except cost more. Thanks grazz

LadyFlyer (And all the rest):

LadyFlyer, I love you and I'm sorry I sold the 30K1 before we met. But that has nothing to do with glow plugs.

I can't comment either way on the K&B 4C plug, the Fox Miracle plug, or the Enya #3. Haven't used any of them.

When I got my first 4C engine it came with an OS type "F" plug. I bought a card of OS type "F" plugs as spares. With every 4C engine since I have made sure it had an OS type "F" plug. So far I've not had to use the first replacement from the card.

"Yeah, but how long has that been?" I can hear people asking. The first 4C engine is an OS FS 80 rear cam, model 1801. Been out of production how long now? Six years? Eight?

Omega 15% fuel WITH CASTOR OIL, MAS in line fuel filters, and Bru-Line intake air filter. Still feels like new.

Regarding fuel filters, I always use two on the airplane. One in the fuel delivery line, the second in the pressure line from the muffler to the tank. The tanks stay a lot cleaner that way.

Point of this screed is that I have had excellent, and extremely inexpensive service from the OS type "F" plugs, and have seen no need to experiment with others.

I'm using good plugs,
. I don't buy them with slugs.

Bill.
