You guys are begining to remind of that new Domino's Philly-cheese-steak pizza commercial where the woman is in the hardware/home-improvement store looking at door knockers and door-bells...

I can see it now, a doorbell rings in the neighborhood and 50 R/C fliers rush to their doors to see if it was UPS leaving their Edge!

I do not think UPS likes it with the drivers do that, but when they pay them salary the quicker they finish the day, the more the driver makes per hour. So ringing the door bell cost them a nickle or two. I got mine yesterday at the office. I had it delivered there because I was afaird of the same thing.

The office assistant called me while I was in the field and it was all I could do not drop everything I was doing and rush back to pet the box. When I finally saw it standing next to my desk the first thing I noticed was a big puncture in the side of the box! I just knew they had stuck something right through the middle of the fuse and a wing! I carefully opened and unwrapped everthing (my boss even helped me. What a guy) and examined for damage. To my great relief everything was untouched.

Tom if your listening, the quality of this ARF is excellent! Your service and quality is the best I had the pleasure of. I spoke with you for a short time at the Dallas show you sold me on the spot. I'm saving pennies for the new Extra now!

Kingdom802,

"Boy what happened to asking SANTA for matchbox cars" -----I don't know?!?!?!?....My 2 1/2 year old son asked for a MOTORCYCLE!!!!!

I had one of these reserved but never did plunk down the $$$ to secure it due to an unexpected family expense. (My son fell and tried to eat the corner of a concrete step. His front teeth really took a beating. ) After looking at this beautiful bird I'm going to have to scrounge up some extra money from somewhere....

Isn't that something? They make those guys hustle like that and of course I can't blame them as they want all the money they can get. But somewhere along the way it's going to damage the company. Glad to hear yours made it OK even with the hole in the box. I think this was the first box I ever got from UPS that wasn't squished, or had a hole in it or a end bitten off...

My grandson (which is 2) asked for a cell phone! He likes to press the buttons and hear the beeps..

Kevin:

Hope your son is OK, that had to hurt!

Hey, invite the UPS person in for cocktails
Seriously, if you get a lot of packages, do something special for them and they will make your delivery right!

I know what you mean. I was home all day yesterday as I knew the plane was coming. No knock, no doorbell, nothing. But I did hear a truck or school bus pass by. I went to the side door and sure enough there was the plane, standing on end (so the wind could knock it over) no protection and UPS was gone. Several times in the past few months I've had packages come that where valued at a grand and just left on the side deck for hours. anyone could come along and help themselves. I can't understand why a company as big as UPS would want to take that risk of paying just to have their guys deliver faster. Un-real. Hope yours arrives OK.

Kevin, I hear ya, my son got his "first" motorcycle at 5, the same year he started flying and playing golf, before the boy was six he'd been to Hawaii, played Torrey pines golf course (and even got a par). I long for the days of matchbox cars. I had to build him a SPAD so I could fly my own 31% edge, really though, this is my second rodeo, the other two boys are in college, my take on it is, expose them to everything let them decide what they want to pursue.
Sorry about your son he'll grow up to appreceiate you, I know, the same thing happened to me as a child.

My son will be fine....A couple of his front teeth are a little further back but his bite is ok. They are still a little loose but firming up more each day. The dentist says that there is nothing they can do for him. At least they didn't break off!!! I appreciate the concerns. Santa IS going to bring my son a "motorcycle"....It is an electric powered four wheeler. There is a choice of top speeds---2 1/2 and 5 MPH. His will be regulated to 2 1/2 MPH!!!

This plane looks to be a real winner!!! I'm going to try to get one early next year. I'm wanting to go with a ZDZ 60 or ZDZ 80 for power. I'm not really into 3D but I do like to do free style aerobatics and want plenty of power for the up lines. The extra power will also help to offset the smoke system I would like to use. What power are you guys going to use????

DA-50 here, Tom says it is light and overpowered with that... plane is designed around the G62 with full 3D capabilities.

A ZDZ 80 would be way too much for the plane to handle not only weight wise, but maybe too much for the frame to handle in the air. Even Tom doesn't recommend it. A ZDZ60 would give you more than enough 'extra' power. Most guys are using a engine in the 50cc range. Myself, a DA50. I've been busting my rear trying to get my website up and running. I have all the main screens there and hopefully will have some pictures & text up today or tomorrow. If I succeed I will give out the URL here so guys/gals can take a look at how I'm building mine. Glad to hear your son will be OK. I remember those days of going through all the spills & cuts & stitches, etc when my boy was that age. Enough to give one a heart attack!

I guess I'll cross out the ZDZ 80!!!! Dick Hanson has been beating a drum for the ZDZ 60. I don't intend for this thread to turn into an engine shoot-out, but I am genuinely interested in your comments....My next question is how does the ZDZ 60 compare in power to some of the hot 50's??? What do you guys consider to be a hot 50??? No bashing please...Just keep it to the technical side.

I'm well versed in jets but with this giant scale stuff I'm not quite up to speed concerning the quality equipment. Years ago, when I flew some giant scale planes, the Quadra engines were about all that you could get. Now, there are sooooo many choices!!! This plane will have to be a keeper for a long time so I only want to buy ONCE!!!

TIA for your responses.....Kevin

Kevin:

Personally I think all the the engine manufactures are on a even keel. DA, BME, 3W, ZDZ, etc, etc..are all about the same. The difference in the engines they produce is how they port them and set them up. For a example DA tends to tune their engines for a very low, reliable, with the least amount of vibration, low end, then smooth power to the top. 3W tunes their engines for high top end power. It's all in the way the manufacture tunes their engines. They are all good! I can't see how these guys get on the bashing thing. I own DA, 3W and BME (so far) and they have all been great performers.

On to the ZDZ60. IMO this engine is going to have a little more power then all the 'hot' 50's. Just makes sense that 10 more cc's are going to give you a bit extra power. (As Homer would say, DUH...) As for the 'Hot' 50's, what makes them hot is the fact they are re-sculptured engines that have less weight, newer and more modern cranks, pistons, rings, more porting for power, etc, etc. After break in these engines come on strong. In fact my BME50 surprised me right from the start. That thing was turning a 21x10 at 7300. I only have 3 gallons through it and it keeps getting stronger. I've only started breaking in my DA50 and so far it's very impressive also. Only to get better as it breaks in.

As far as getting very technical about engines, Dick is good and so is Kris^. IMO, I think Kris^ is very well versed in all engines and his posting are worth reading.

Bottom line? Go with the ZDZ60. I think it would be a gr
