Baitshack, by 4.5 amp do you mean 4.5 amphour, (AH)?
You can but it is not advisable. Pumping that much current into a sealed battery can damage the seals and possibly burst.
A sealed battery should have a relatively low charge current.
I charge my sealed batterys with a 2-6 amp automotive charger set at 2 amps. It also has a tapering charge so as the battery becomes charged the charge rate decreases. (I still watch them though! )

Most car/motorcycle battery chargers have selectable charge rates -- you should not have a problem charging your 4.5amp wetsell battery with one of those chargers. Just be mindfull of the charge rate.

Jazzy is right! Be carefull...over 2 amp hour charge is hard on your starter batter if left for long.

Best bet....go to WalMa-- (Not an employee, just a sucker) and buy youself a motorcycle battery trickle charger for $9 bucks. Leave it on over nite once every week or two. Your battery will
thank you!

Maximum charging current for lead acid batteries for longest life is 3/10 times capacity i.e. (.3 x 4.5AH) equals 1.35 amps. Too fast and you'll sulphate the plates. The faster you charge the greater the sulphate. Then the sulphate falls off the plates, when jarred, to the bottom of the batt. and, when done repeatedly, shorts that 2v cell and ruins your 12v battery. Oh, and use distilled water if it's not sealed. Got this info from motor cycle shops and magazines ...... been riding for 35+ years.
