I purchased some Hitec 605's recently for my Razor .40 3D plane. I have found that these servos will not center correctly consistantly. They will center sometimes but end up a 1/4inch off other times. I initially thought I might have some play in the linkages but have checked all that and there is no play when I isolate the control surfaces.

What if anything will Hitec do in this case?

I do not want more 605's after reading the threads here.

I need a servo that is lightweight, durable and has good centering chararistics. I would if at all possible like to have servos that are lighter than the 605's.

What can we do with these servos, and what do you suggest as a replacement?

Thanks,

Dbow

I've had similar problems with a couple of 605s '. It seems that a while back Hitec was supplied some centering pots that were not up to snuff. Without having a serial number, it was impossible to locate them until they were used. Unfortunately, quite a few were used in the manufacturing process before they were caught.

If you bought your servos new, and can prove it, give Hitec a call and tell them about the problem. They may take care of them under warranty. I KNOW that the servos can be repaired and become excellent servos.

If you bought the servos used, it's quite possible that the servo pots could be worn out and require replacement. In either case, Hitec is very capable of repairing the servos.

After the centering problem is resolved, the 605 is a very good analog servo. Get in touch with Hitec before you throw in the towel. Hitec is one of the best companies out there when it comes to repair and warranty work. They have gone far beyond where they should have stopped in taking care of some of my equipment. Obviously, I'm still grateful for their outstanding service and assistance.

I forgot to add that you might like to look into the Hitec 225mg servo. Fast, strong, smaller than the 605, and reliable. I've been using them for years without problems. If you don't need the torque, look at the Hitec 225 standard gear servo.

Also, check out the thread that Mike Mayberry of Hitec has prvided in this forum. It appears he would like to hear from you.

Dbow, as much as I like the 5475's I hate the 605's, the poor centering cost me a good plane. The 5475 cost about $8 more than the 605 but its digital and centers very well.

Well I waited and waited and no repsonse.

I am sending these back to Hitec one way or another. I will be sending them back to Tower and replacing them with Futaba servos.

Thanks for the support.

Mike, I JUST PURCHASED 4 605'S FROM CHIEF. THE BOX HAS A STATEMENT THAT THE SERVO WILL NOT BE WARRANTEED IF YOU USE TWO SERVOS ON ONE SURFACE. MY INTENT IS TO USE TWO SERVOS ON AN AEROWORKS 31% 540T EDGE. IF I AM VERY CAREFUL TO MATCH THE SERVOS WITH TURNBUCKLE TYPE LINKAGE WILL I EXPERIENCE PROBLEM WITH BALANCING THE SERVOS AND WITH RELIABILITY? AFTER READING THE NOTE ON THE GUARANTEE I WILL NOT EVEN OPEN THE BOX UNTIL I CAN RECIEVE SOME MORE INFO ON THE SUBJECT. IF NECESSARY CAN I SWAP FOR A BETTER SERVO. I GUESS I WOULD HAVE TO DISCUSS THAT WITH CHIEF HOBBIES?

THANX
LARRY

dbow- It seems that the responces you received were very acurate. When setting up a 3D plane with massive throws even a 1 degree variance can mean 1/4" of travel. This is where the digital and or coreless servos have a big advantage. If there is a problem with the servos we would be happy to repair or replace them at no charge.

Larry t- The 605's can pull alot of current so if they are fighting each other at all they can burn up. I would strongly recommend digital servos like the 5625MG or better yet the 5945MG which is as good as it gets. Then use the Hitec HFP-10 programmer to dial them in.

Mike.
