Hi Gang, I just picked up my new Meister Scale P-47 razorback, which was built for me by Fred Menna in R.I. What a beautiful job Fred did on this bird...nw I just have to pick out a color scheme and paint her! Anyway, I have a Quadra 75 in her, and would like to fly on a 4 bladed prop...normally on the 75's I use a 24x10 2 blade...so I reckon I would be looking for a 20x10 or a 22x10 4 bladed prop and hub. Does anyone know who makes/sells such an animal? Any leads would be appreciated.
Thanks and happy flying,
Rob Bailey / Pickupsticks

The only one I know of is Fuchs in Germany. I don't know who distributes them in the US, or if anybody else makes one that large. Here's a link:

Hi Pickupsticks,

Check out Zinger props on the web , they made some 20/8's for me and did a good job at a fair price. We used these props also to make props for Mac Hodges B-29 (24/10's), had to use a machinist to cut them plus pin/glue them together because we couldn't hide the plates, like my Hornet has with 5.50" spinners.

I use a 4 blade 18/8s and a 3w50 it flies my 20lbs Spitfire in a scale manner. I have noticed they were plenty of torque being produced from the 4 blade and had to put 4 clicks to the right to get her straight. Will fly fast with a 2 blade, I'll find that out this week.

......snicker......

You better dump that "scale" 4 bladed prop, or else me, Ed and Scottie will have to fly around the hack at 1/4 throttle just to wait for you and your wonderful "scale" manner....

Top Flight 2 Bladed props are the best bang for the buck, and speed.

Charlie, That's good to know that Zinger will do custom work. My other problem is the noise restrictions at my field...I've found that Zingers tend to flex more which creates more noise. If I run a 28x10 Zinger say on my Meister Zero I get approximately a 98 dcb reading, but with a Mejzlik or a high end wooden prop like a Menz, I get about 94 dcb. I don't understand all of the mechanics of it, I'm still learning. But I like to have as many options as possible.
Thanks.

FW-190, Thanks for the reminder about the torque! I like to fly in as much a scale manner as possible...but it's always nice to have that little bit extra when needed. I've pretty much always stuck with 2 blades, but I just have the craving to get that last bit of realism...of course if she doesn't fly good on the 4 bladed, I won't hesitate to go back to the 2 blade...that last bit of realism isn't worth risking such a sweet bird. Oh yeh, was it you that mentioned in a post awhile back that there was an article about putting a 3W 70i in a PCM Me-109? If so, let me know where I can find it.
Thanks.

Ray, Hmmm...guess I neglected to tell you that I'm going to be flying my PCM 109 on a 3 bladed! That is when you finish building her for me...that is when I finally get everything shipped out to you!!! I'll email you tomorrow with the shipping info.
Thanks,
Rob Bailey / Pickupsticks

3 blade is not as bad as a 4 blade, the Twin Spark and the right prop should get you a nice performing Warbird, with some good pace available. You would get to put a prop on board that has some decent aesthetic presentation as well.

Rob, sorry the Zinger uses two 3.5" aluminum plates to hold the 4 independent blades together. It would look pretty funny on a P47, It just hit me duh! I saw Cactus Aviation have a molded 4 blade prop, you may want to try them out.... No hub and it looks right.

Don't let SPEEDSTERS get you down. I to like the realism, its why I am trying. Lately, I just can't find the time to try other sizes and pitch and there are just so many combinations... I am just a beginner playing with scale stuff, but I will keep trying...

Ray, not to worry I'll keep you happy with 2 props instead of 4. but if not well just meet up at every other lap. . Remember though I have YA-p47 stricktly on 2 blades.

You can get a 4-Blade prop from Aircraft International. I just got a 3W 20x12 4 blade to run on my 3W-75. The 3W looks more Scale then the Fuchs. This is a great combo in a 32% extra 300 so I think it will work in my Skyraider. The price is $92.
