Ill check the weight later today ..

The big attraction for me is that most real helis use turbines. I've seen and heard these things fly and the sound is incredible.

As of the last I heard the AMA has no turbine waver procedure for helicopters as of yet. That is preventing manufactures from promoting them in the US.

You can not compare a Kyosho EDF to a BVM F16. Same as you cant compare a put-put glow heli to a turbine choper. If you want the high end toys in this hobby, $$ can not be an issue, same goes for cars... Im sure a ferarri modena is better than a mercedes sl500 ... but is it $80K better ? no its not !! would I buy one over a benz > hell yea !!!

so? i do not see a turbine heli as a high end toy... and of course you can compare them... if you wanna spend the extra $$, go right ahead... i won't (and i don't have space in my car for an fire extinguisher neither)

discussion 3D vs. low inverted flight:

referring to the heli shown on page 1 of this thread and the videos of the inverted flight:
today i have been on the flying field in Enns, Austria. 5 helis have been there. 1 PJW turbine trainer, as seen on the pictures, and two PJW turbine powered Jet Rangers.
gerhard pahl showed the outstanding power and capability of the PJW trainer doing all the 3D stuff imaginable (however in secure altitude, maybe curtis youngblood would have done these manoevres two inch above the ground, unfortunately he wasn´t there ).
franz höllinger showed spectacular flights with one of the (semi)scale jet rangers. interestingly all those flights without any failure or problem. and believe me guys, i am very critical.
one thing i have to mention however:
the trainer weights 8.5kg, and all the wild 3D figures have to be seen under these circumstance. sure, there is a difference to youngbloods 4.5kg futura (or whatever he is flying now).

wanted to inform you what state of the art is (with turbine power), today.

Sorry to pull this post out of the 3D black hole but I wanted to report the latest from the AMA.

Last week Joseph, from Vario USA, and I were invited to the scheduled AMA safety meeting in Muncie to go over the turbine helicopter waiver requirements. I have worked with these guys on the safety committee for many years now and I feel they are receptive to get this going ASAP. We demonstrated the JetCopter SX and they were truly impressed with its performance plus it answered some of their concerns about safety.

In the next couple of weeks we will be compiling some additional information they need and the process will be on the way. From time to time we will have information on the jetcatusa Web Site chronicling the progress as we go.

As reminder, it is still not allowed by the AMA to fly turbine helicopters at an AMA field or sanctioned event.

I used to fly helis pretty regular but have been flying jets for the last few years. The turbines are the thrill that has taken my modelling enjoyment to a whole new level. Since the turbine helis are soon to be AMA accpeted I think I may have to take helis back up. Turbine anything rocks, I can't see myself 3D'ing but a scaled out war machine..... now you got me!

David,

Ditto.............

As you, my helis got shelved when I got into turbine jets. They have recently been revived and there is a new one on the bench to help me get the heli thumbs back. I finally got into scale with turbines, and a scale turbine heli is somewhere in my future. The Graupner NH-90 looks fantastic and Vario has a couple interesting prospects.

I have room in my breadtrk for the fire extingusher, I have the money, I can't find where to buy one. The sound is the reason I want one. The sound fits scale perfectly.

Where to find one?

Breadtrk,

Check v-eastonline.com. The Graupner NH-90 is apparently available now. It's six grand, but in the world of turbines, it's a great deal for what you get. Be sure to read the warrenty issues surrounding the engine. Additional info on the warrenty can also be found at jetcatusa.com.

Bill.......
