I just received my new RCV58 engine and it looks great!

My LHS does not stock Wildcat fuel, only Morgan fuels. I usually use Coolpower in all my engines, 15%.

The instructions say 10% with no more than 6% castor. My question: does the RCV58 REQUIRE castor oil? I would prefer not to use it. Would 10% coolpower be OK for this engine? Or, should I use 10% Omega, and I don't know how much castor it has.

Thanks,

George

Hi George

I am pleased you are happy with your new 58CD. In terms of fuel, Morgan Omega 10% would be perfect.
Castor is a great lubricator and coolant therefore is beneficial for the engines and is especially important for the RCV SP series. With the RCV58CD engine however, although recommended, some of our flyers have chosen to use purely synthetic oil with no adverse effects. We do all of our testing on fuel containing castor.

What I would say is that if you are having to purchase new fuel (because you only have 15% nitro) then opt for the Omega 10%. If you already have Coolpower 10% then that should be okay.
I hope this helps
Best regards
Laurenne

Thanks Laurenne,

I'll get the 10% Omega for this engine. I'm going to run it inverted in a Spitfire and it will fit entirely within the cowl. I'll cut an inlet hole below the spinner and build some ductwork for the outlet area just ahead of the wing. I'm planning on getting plenty of air over it, but the castor will be a little insurance as well.

George

Hi George

I think thats the best choice. Your spitfire should look great. If you get around to taking any photos, we would love to add them to the gallery section of our website. Email any photos and specifications to sales@rcvengines.com

Thanks
Laurenne

Hi Laurenne,

I have run in my engine on Omega 10%. It started right up and ran perfectly. The needle valves both adjusted very easily and precisely. Looks like it is going to be a great engine for the Spitfire.

I am emailing some pictures of the installation. It is a tight fit, but is working out perfectly. Will follow up with finished pictures when it is done.

George
