Don Incoll had built a sport scale version of this, but on trying to
access his website for a link, it seems it no longer exists. Don
seems to have vanished. Damn shame, he was was a prolific
modeler with really innovative ideas.

I have seen this one on several History Channel Programs. It didn't last too long because the pilot had a terrible time trying to land it. It seems from his vantage point he couldn't see the ground. It also had a habit of falling over.

And a similar design employed a trolley / cradle so it could take off like a 'normal' plane..

I don't think a R/C pilot should have any trouble with ground reference with this one.
Making verticle take offs and landings with this would impress the troops and if it would fly 3D would be icing on the cake!

I believe some of the talented scratch builders could to something with this configuration.
