Great shops guys! I'm very envious of a lot of you. I've been relogated to a small room in my GF's house and she wouldn't let me set it up the way I wanted to, so I haven't been building anything lately. That's all about to change though! I'm moving into a two BR apartment in a few weeks and the spare room will be my shop. I've gotten a lot of ideas from this thread and will incorporate as many as I can considering it's an apartment. Extra overhead lighting is a big one for me. I hate working in low/dim light. I'm still trying to decide if I should ask about pulling up the carpet or just put something down over it to protect it. I'll post pics when I get started.

Insane

Looking at shop pics, is that SkyBolt hanging by the aileron section of the wing? Just wondered ( mine weighs 9.5 ) I keep the wings on too ,but have to hang it from motor and tail. Seems like the weight would be hard on the TE of the wings??

Bill

No , it is hang on the trailing edge, with foam for support . I have not weighed my SkyBolt, but I`m sure it does`nt weigh 9.5 lbs. , maybe 7 lbs. It has a Saito 1.00 , 14x8 APC and will hang on the prop , with no problems.
Got to watch one with a Satio 1.25 this weekend , Oh boy. Lock-n-Load. Dude was on the deck and hucking. I just cannot bring myself to do that to mine just yet, but , Man it was cool .

I am just finishing up on a work shed (12" X 16' X 12.6" . I will be moving my work bench (8' X 3') into place once all my hook-ups are done. My last shed (before moving to a new house) didn't have enough outlets, so this time - 16 separate outlets - can't ever have enough. Just to be on the safe side, I'm only running 4 outlets per circuit. I'm putting in a small AC window unit for the summer months. This shed is a move up from a 10 X 8 space in my garage. I have additional storage above my work area (12 X 6 X 5) plus additional rafters to hold the planes and kits. Once I get done, I'll post pictures.

Here is mine. I like to dabble in a little bit of everything.

I modeled it after my father in laws real one. He has an original 1970 SS with 396. He's the original owner and it has around 50k miles on it. It's never been redone and is mint condition. He used do drive it as his daily driver back in the day. I'll try to get some pics of it for ya.

Awsome! Looking forward to it. Mine is a '71' SS 350/350.

Great pics everywhere of some really great workshops! I finally convinced my wife to relocate to a new house which just HAPPENS to have a big garage. Finally time to set up a bit better my place to work. Found some great info here.

Only one question: Did anybody have a decent solution to storing wing halves?? Nowadays all my planes have wings joined by a carbon or alu tube. I was sort of thinking of a solution where I would store them vertically. Any tips are wellcome!

Volkert

I hang mine from the rafters (8' cellar ceilings). I attach 2" straps between/below the rafters and slip the wings in so they hang in-line with the rafters, supported near the servos to distribute the weight.

Just came back from my new house, did I think a good job on storing planes and winghalves, will post a picture later.

Question: I should not store my fuel in the house. Now I normally have 7 gallons around. Does anybody have a tip on storing fuel outside the house? Here it can be humid and in winter it will freeze at night (sometimes)

Thanks,

Volkert

I finally got moved in (whew!). Here is a panoramic photo I made of the shop. It's not finished yet, that's why it's still clean! The main table is 3/4" MDF 32" x 97" sitting on shelving units made to handle 2000 lbs. The old tile dining room table will be where I end up putting the scroll saw and drill press. This room has a full bathroom and a large walk-in closet (at least it looked large before I started filling it up ).

Actually that's my cleanliness meter . If there's a lot of Balsa Dust, it will stir it up and visibility will be reduced, then I know it's time to clean the room .
