Ok, well i was in rc for about 3 years, got out b/c of paintballing, and now that i have the cash, im going to get back into rc. I used to have a nitro pede, xxxnt, electric pede, evader st, and a maximum mt. Ive been looking at mt's, and i was thinking about the new savage 25 rtr. It looks nice, 409 at the lhs, so it seemed like a good deal. Now is there any pros/cons of the savage that i should know because i haven't been onto the boards in a while and haven't been listening to the reviews of all the latest products. So, do you think the savage is what i should get? or should i get a 2.5 maxx or ofna mp? Btw: i can tune and maintain a nitro fine.

thx-kyle

In todays competitive market, the 2.5 maxx has too many problems to be really enjoyable. The motor is horrible to tune, the drive train in the maxx has not been improved, and the stock shocks are pretty much garbage. Im not a huge fan of ofna products, but i would buy one before i bought another maxx. I just dont like their lack of aftermarket, and customer service. The savage 25 is a sure winner here.

I had a 2.5 Tmax and while I had no problems with the engine at all and it ran very strong and tuned properly for me....I have to agree with ThermalRD about the crummy shocks and parts breakage. Simple roll overs would break the body posts easily and the spur gear would easily become damaged while doing jumps....etc. Yes....with upgrades it could be a stealthy rig....but then you would need to invest alot more $$$ to get it there.

I have never owned a Savage but if I were going to lay down $$$ I would buy the new Savage as it seems to have what it needs to be a tough truck.

Good Luck!

One of the first upgrades I did on my Savage21 was the brakes and the brake hub.I used two Traxxas discs and a GPM alloy hub but you can buy double brake disc setups now.HD dogbones are a must if you play hard.I lost count of the stock ones I've broken.Next on my list would be the rims/tires.I stripped the stockers pretty fast along with the Velocity 40 series rims.I'm really happy with my Outback Weld 40 series rims.I don't think i'll go back to the Hex design rims ever again after using these rims. The suspension parts on the Savage are beastly.I have yet to break any A-arms,Uprights,(other than the original ones) or bulkheads on my truck and i've been beating the $#@$ out of it for about a year now.

well, i heard the savage 25's have the new hpi " dual disk brakes" or something like that, so will braking still be a problem, and could you send me a link to hb dogbones?

I agree that the engine has tuning problems, but i got a maxx at the beginning of the summer and it has been quite enjoyable. The shocks are fine, and i've ran 6 gallons through mine with 0 drivetrain problems. The savage25 may be the better truck, but IMO, the t-maxx is still very much so a winner.
