hi, everything has gone wrong since i purchased my car and since i don't have a clue whats wrong with it, i'm going to tell you everything. i bought a second hand smartech nitro car, but i can't get it started anymore. is it normal for a glow warmer battery to only last for about 5 mins? when the car arrived the glow warmer was already charged, i could then start it, however i had bought the wrong percentage glow fuel. but because the glow warmer did not have a charger i bought one myself. i charged it for the time it said. but it only lasted for 5 mins. but my dad had fiddled with the high speed needle setting, and the idle speed pin on the car engine, in an attempt to tune it to the new fuel. we now can't get it started. Is this why the car won't start or is it because of the glow warmer?
it isn't the glow plug because i just bought a new one, what is the gauge on the glow warmer, battery charge? because when i charge the battery, it only stays in the green for about 5mins. can someone please help me

I bet its your glow plug. Do you know what kind of plug it uses? I think you should by an O.S #8 plug. I would probably fit. If its not then tell me some more info.

A glow battery should last a lot longer. It might be a bad batt. or gage...after the needle drops out of the green, does the plug still glow bright orange? If the mixture needles are way out of wack, then that's prob. why it isn't starting. Try re-setting the needles, at about 2 to 2 1/2 open on the high speed...The low speed is a little trickier, did you mess w/ that? First check the plug after the gage drops out of the green range to see if it might just be the gage, or if the batt. is not holding a charge. Get back to us and let us know what's happening...Good luck.

i havent ever noticed the glow plug glowing bright red after the glow warmer was on. um i just recently bought a "Carbon Speed" glow plug by Duratrax. my engine is a .12. um, the glow warmer battery is a 1.2v and the glow plug says 1.5v does this matter??? um, no i did not touch the low speed setting thing, i changed the high speed one, and then saw on a forum on a different site that the sirio .12 is set 5 turns out, so i did that. But the other thing that i adjusted without knowing was the idle speed, how far should that be out??? and also i heard in a foum that the engine has to be running to adjust that thing, but i changed it while it was not running, does that matter??? your help would be greatly appreciated, o P.S. whats the gauge on the glow warmer???

Well, I PM'd ya, and I think I covered most questions except the one about the idle speed stop screw. That needs to be set so that you have about 1-2mm carb. opening when the servo is in the idle position. The Serio might be a little different, but that should be close. That's why they tell you to set it when running, so it'll idle, and not stall when you apply the brake.

i don't have a sirio, but i have a .12 as well so i set it to that. um, i don't follow with the 1-2mm carb openng? i thought the screw was meant to be 1-2 mm out from all the way in???

What he means by the 1-2 mm idle set screw is.....thats how large the opening should be in the carbeurator when its closed all the way. That idle set screw will determine how big that opening is and the best way to measure it is stick a 1 mm allen wrench (hex key) in the carb and close the valve on it,then turn the idle set screw till you see the valve open off the wrench a little...pull the wrench out and that should be good.

Try to find out your exact engine and look on the net for factory settings or break in settings, all engines are different so settings that work on one may be completely wrong for another.

About the carb opening you need to take off the air filter look into the carb and adjust the screw so the opening left in the carb is about 1mm. I think 5 turns may be too much but dont really know, The settings varies with brand, altitude, and climate. the gauge on the glow warmer only moves when you attach it to a glow plug and when attached if it isnt on the green it could mean 2 things 1.- you have a bad glow plug or 2.-your glow starter is not fully charged. when the glow warmer is off the glow plug the gauge is always in red. Also dont let the glow starter for too long attached to the glow plug it consumes the battery.

you dont have to do every change with the car running the only change you should do with the car running is the high speed needle and low speed needle when you are looking for best perfomance but when you are trying to start it up its not even possible to do it, so you do the changes with the car off. try to see what brand is your engine and then you can look up the factory settings
