I had a 3 cell 700 Kokam come off the Pixie 20 at shut-off and read 9.47 and it never took a charge again, the plane was drawing 2.75 amp at full throttle. Nothing out of place, charger set O.K. just never took a charge again. The guy at FMA said "oh you must have cooked them" But he said he would look at them. So I sent them in. Someone said "FMA don't stand behind anything" I hope they are wrong. Anyone have any experience with FMA.

Bob

Bob,

You won't have any problems with FMA. Just be patient.

At 3amps, you can't "cook" a 700 cell. Typically there is physical distortions when cells are over-charged or over dis-charged.

Your 9.47v sounds fine to me after a flight so i'm not sure what the problem is. What were you charging them with?

I am using a Kokam charger, I have not had any problems with any other Packs. I have a 2 cell 250, two 2 cell 640s, 3 cell 700, 3cell 1200. This is the only pack that ran once and never took a 2nd charge.

I got some really good results by dealing with FMA, they are a little slow but they'll get back with you, I have fried a couple of cells in a pack and they wouldn't take a charge after that so I take the pack apart and measure the voltage on each cell separately. One of the things that I learned is that when you put a pack together you got to make sure that the voltage is the same on all the cells you are using or they won't charge and discharge at the same level so you end up with what you think is a bad pack when in reality is only 1 cell. Remember though to use the packs at or near the maximum discharge rate or you will keep frying them. Get yourself a watt meter so that you can measure how much each motor you use draws and you will save money in the long run, good luck.[image][/image]

FMA called me today, about my 3 cell pack. I must say I got very good service and some great help, because it looks like the problem was my error all along. I was doing everything right, didn't burn the cells, I was treating them properely. He said they tested good, it is looking like my bad solder joint caused a error reading on my charger. He is sending me back my 3 cells rebuilt into a pack for me. Thanks FMA

I'm glad that you didn't destroy your cells, and I can say with all confidence that I've gotten in the past the best customer service from FMA, (I don't work for them by the way) but credit is due. I wish I could say the same for all the vendors that I've dealt with in the past but I can't. I'll tell you though that FMA, Balsa Products, Batteriea America and E-tec all stand by their product, too bad I can't say the same for TP. but one this is for sure, whenever I need more LiPo's FMA gets my business, specially with their new 1500 mah cells, They are great, I just got done building my AT-6 from global and I installed an AXI motor with their ESC and I am running 3s3p 1500's. good luck guys.
