Did somebody leave Santa some scotch instead of milk? Hope he's got good insurance on that sleigh.

When training for my A&P we watched a video of a King Air starting to demonstrate the free-turbine. The guy in the film held the prop from turning, then when the engine was at ground idle stepped away and let the prop go. They said after 1/4 revolution it had so much torque that it's impossible to stop with out major damage to everything involved. Also got to watch one of the flight instructors at Embry Riddle toss a head of lettuce into the prop of a C-172. First time it sailed clean through untouched. Second time there was salad all over the ramp.

My dad taught me early on about propellers - got my a** chewed royally the first time I stepped between the engine and fuselage on his Baron just after we shut down. He said he saw the aftermath of a guy who did the same thing when the engine suddenly moved and the prop imbedded into the guys head. He said there was a hotspot that caused just enough expansion and one cylinder at the right spot to let it rotate just enough just as the guy walked between the prop and fuse.

Anyone recall that scene out of Pulp Fiction in the car - think they need a "fixer" for the Kingair too.....

(BTW it's not just the Italians, Jack Newton (golfer) plays one-handed and one-eyed now remember.)

Which was radio-conrolled anyway, the Kingair or Rudolph? .......Was Rudolph starting-up his new toy unrestrained?......Twiddling with the needle-valve?..........Or did someone's throttle stick open so they threw a deer in the prop to stop it?......

O.K., sorry.....

I'm a flight engineer on P-3 Orions and have personally seen bird-strikes, and pics of deer and wolf strikes, that crew was lucky the didn't hit during take off or landing, a plane that small it could have been catastrophic.

I'm sure the maintenance pubs for that plane require the prop and possibly engine to be removed for inspection after a strike like that. On a prop plane like that those props are your life, one goes bad it can ruin your whole day. about 10 years ago a P-3's prop came off and took out the other three engines, bad day.

Oh, by the way, to the guy who worked on C-130s, YOUR ENGINES ARE ON UPSIDE DOWN!!!!!!!

Even free turbine engines will need to be stripped.

One of our Dash-8's had a fight with a service vehicle and it's PW-123 spat it's free turbine out the exhaust. Also bent the nacelle, fractured the hub - hydraulic oil spewing out and ball bearings bouncing everwhere................

My wife posing in front of said Dash-8.

Shame for the deer....................Shame for the poor sod who has to clean up the King Air......And I thought bird strikes made a mess
