Ok I have a RC10 GT that I bought back in 95. This truck has run great for me the entire time. I'm now having problems with the low end take off. Do you guys (may be a stupid question) think its time to rebuild. The motor is an OS I belive .12. If so how hard is it to rebuild or should I put a .15 in it instead. Also how much will it run me to rebuild the motor and what all do I need to accomplish this? Should I also replace the carb?

If you have had that engine since 95 without a rebuild - u are one lucky SOB. Congrats on taking care of that motor! Doing a rebuild isnt difficult, if you know what you are doing. However - if you have the cash - u might be better off just getting a new engine, since the one you have is probably well past its prime. I dont know which OS engine you have, but to do a rebuild, you will need a new piston/sleeve/conrod assembly. This will run about 60-100 dollars depending upon whether u have the CV or CVR verson. You can get a brand new .12CV for about 90.00 and a brand new .12CVR for about 110.00 No reason to upgrade to a .15 unless you want to. There is a slight power increase, but not much.

damn! congrats! how many gallons do you think it has had through? i'm still shocked it has lasted that long. Can you turn over the flywheel with your finger easily with the glow plug in? if so, you need to rebiuld. If not, take the head off, and look at the piston. If it's all black and burnt, that could also indicate a rebiuld. If none of this applies, try turning your low end needle(the one on the front of the carb) out little by little. But still congrats on the life of your motor! i can't keep mine for a full year!

I can say truthfully that the truck has a about 4-5 gallons of fuel run through it. No I can't turn the fly wheel with my finger, No the piston is not black at all it's still silver. I actully had the truck running well about a month ago but then it started running very very sluggish on the bottom end and taking a long time to build up speed. Maybe I just need to play with the low end needle a little more.

droptop - u may want to take the carb off and inspect it for wear if adjusting the LSN doesnt work. A simple tear down along with a good cleaning and lube should do the trick.
