I wanted to start by introducing myself, Im Mike Kirkpatrick from stevensville MD 30 something reliving my youth through my 12 year old son. "bet I'm not the only one". I just purchased a NITRO EVADER for the boy and got myself a NITRO RUSTLER. Both are used but in great shape. I did end up swapping the .18 in the evader with a O.S. .12 cv-xr, "the .18 had poor compression." I guess my first question is should I rebuild the .18 or is it not worth it? Does anybody know what the hp is on the .18? I look foward to learning to know you and getting some good ideas when it becomes hop up time.

That .18 is going to be about as powerful as the .12CVR that u replaced it with. I dont really see a reason to do a rebuild on that engine, since the new one will last you plenty of months/years. Congrats on getting involved in this exciting hobby, and let us know if you have anymore questions, or if we can help you along the way.

Seeing as piston and sleeve sets arent that expensive, you should throw a set in and just keep it for a back up engine. Welcome to the boards!

Well I fired up the .12 and ran 5 tank's for break in and let me tell ya, That O.S. fired right up and the tuning is very close. The thing idled perfect, KILLER acceleration and it stopped on a dime almost. I am very impressed with the quality right out of the box. "Can you tell I'm happy or what" It's just nice to know when my son opens it up it will run. MAN WILL IT RUN! There was one problem though..........I need to buy tires it fried the stock duratrax . I think I will purchase a street set and a off road set to get him started.

Also purchased a piston and sleeve kit from a lhs $30 and will have the .18 for a spare.

Hey sk8r,
First off both are killer car's. Being as I bought both of them used I got the good fortune of tearing both of them apart. "A luxury not given to all who purchase rtr trucks." I would have to say from a mechanic's standpoint the EVADER is much easier to work on. It is more open to get to thing's where as the RUSTLER just seem's to have more stuff in the way, mostly being the electric start and the top deck of the frame. The EVADER has just the single bottom aluminum frame, the RUSTLER has the bottom frame than it also has a top frame. This must make the RUSTLER a stronger but also heavier car. I would say that for a beginner the EVADER would be the way to go. But then again that electric start is nice!

Nice wheels on the Rustler. You get them yourself or did they come with the car?

How deep are the off-sets on those wheels? I'm thinking about getting those but I want the monster truck size. I'm trying to transform my Stadium truck into a Monster truck and to start I need a deep off-set Monster truck wheel to fit on my short A-arms.
