I just recently got a Savage SS and finished assembling it. I am having trouble getting the thing started or to stay running. I just put the roto start on it because the pull start was near impossible. I have tried adjusting the needles and all that but the truck dies right after it starts. I think I have an idea of how the settings need to be adjusted now but I am concerned about a metal-to-metal clanging noise while using the roto start. I was told it might be the fly wheel so I tightened that and I am still getting the noise. Does anyone have any idea what the sound is and how to fix it?

Thanks

try increasing the idle the engine might run then it sounds like its either to low of idle or too rich. remember increase the needle in very tiny 1:8 or 1:16 turns it will work out for yah at somepoint i have no idea about the clanking noise

Will it run as long as you give it throttle or does it die no matter what? Are you heating the engine before trying to start it with a hair dryer or anything? Are you leaving the glow igniter on or taking it off when it dies? I had trouble getting mine to idle when I first got it broke in, but it was because my flywheel got loose and the vibration ended up breaking clutch springs. So it was engaged all the time. Once I replaced the collet, got the flywheel on real tight, and changed springs it runs great. If you are just cold starting it then try the hair dryer.. should only take about 3-5 minutes to get up to 150+ degrees then the engine will start easier and should idle better.

Your best bet is to find someone knowledgeable in this hobby and get help from them. A local hobby shop may also help assuming they are involved in the hobby.
