I am installing a set of Century retracts in my P-47. Does anyone know if the Century four way speed control valve is any good or is there a better one out there?

The Century Jet 4-way variable air control valve works very well. It is easy to mount and adjust. Plus you have full control of the up and down speed for each gear. The Robart unit might look better, but I would go with the CJ unit for functionality.

I have owned both and the Robart is musch better when adjusting the speed of the retracts. In addition, it is much easier to mount in the plane and has better connections to the valve.

Try one of the valves from Ultra precision. You can controll your outer doors and your gear at the same time and have them operate in the correct way..

I have just ordered a CJ 4 way speed control valve from tower Hobbies. I put a set of CJ retracts in my TF P40 but they retract so fast that they do not have time to rotate to the correct position before they enter the wheel well, subsequentially the tyre just punches its way through the top skin of the wing. When the pressure is low, they work a treat and more scale like. so hopefully this valve will work for me.

I have to agree with BobH, the Ultra Precision valve is the way to go. It may look pricey, but you get what you pay for. This valve comes set up from the factory and needed no adjustment.

Bob, I have been looking at the Ultra Control Valve and I was wondering if I can use a mini server or just a standard server to operate the valve?

Thanks
Tom

skyking, the valve is no more difficult to operate than any other air control valve. So you can use a standard or even a mini servo if its sufficiently powerful. BobH.

Here are a couple pictures of what I have done so far. The only problem I have is. If I put the retract in so the wheel faces inboard as in scale the retract will not fit flush so I can't add the gear door. If I put it in so the wheel faces outboard it will fit flush and I can add the door. I guess I will have to put it in to fit flush.

skyking, is this the TF P-47 giant? Looks like it from your pictures. I think there was an update to the instructions that made a few changes so you could add the doors and have them flush..?.. Perhaps someone will chime in who has built one.. BobH.

Hi Bob, No it is the ModelTech P-47. I just didn't like the small stock gear and wanted to install 3 1/4" wheels that is why I went with the CJ retracts.

skyking. thanks. Put the gear so that you can have the doors on. You wont really notice the fork direction too much after that any way.. BobH.
