Anyone out there use 5% nitro for their Saito 100? I would like to as I have a couple Irvines and they are supposed to run on the 5% and I'd really like to avoid lugging around two different fuels. Thanks

It should run just fine. Unless you plan on doing a lot of 3D stuff then you may not be satisfied.

5% will run in your engine just fine, in fact no nitro at all will run the engine OK. One setback of lower nitro is that the idling characteristics aren't as good as higer nitro. Some tweaking of the low end needle will help. Overall performance will probably be to your satisfaction. Just try it out and see how you like it. If it works for you, great. If there are some things that you don't like, simply try a fuel with a bit more nitro and see if it helps any. I have run as low as 10% nitro in mine and it ran/idled OK, just a tad bit rough. I went to 15%, and then 20% and the idle got better with each increase in nitro. Swinging an APC 13x10 prop, I can get as ow as 1700 RPM at idle. Depending on the weight of the airframe, you can get a comfortable idle all the way up to around 2200 RPM.

Good Luck,

John

Lower nitro in the 100 when swinging a big prop will make the needle valve hard to adjust on a hot day. You will not be able to tell rich from too lean except that the engine will quit when too lean.

From my experience, I would run 10% in the Irvines and the Saito. People around here run 15% in their Irvines and don't seem to have any trouble. I'm not saying it's right to run 15% in a Irvine. I just see people doing it all the time.

Enjoy,

Jim
