Status: offline 		Had a question regarding builing surfaces for this size project. Seems that many use a door. Are you able to walk completely around the table you use? Meaning, will I be able to use my workbench which is against the wall?

Status: offline 		Hey there Bad bart...what ever size of bench you use,try to make it as big as possible because no matter what size you use,it simple wont be big enuf..and that is the truth!!My bench is 4feet by 12 feet and as you can see I am a bit of a slob when it comes to building,but I wish it was bigger..but that was all I could fit..With a single door being used that is about 36inches by 80 inches..just big enuf to get one side of the wing on it..that all..The fuse is 9 feet long!!! so that wont fit at all...Think big here because its big!! dont give up !!! Yes, I built up the elevator with scale rib spacing and trim tab, and covered it with Solartex, which is a fabric iron-on covering. As far as my b-17 goes, it is structurally complete, fully glassed, and mostly primed. I'n just about to start with surface detail and pannel line application. So much sanding! Anyway, I'm making good progress towards completion. I've got several other things to do in the shop involving maintainence of some of my other planes, so my full workshop time and attention is not devoted solely to the B-17

Status: offline 		Howdy, quick question regarding the construction of the DS B-17. I'm just starting mine today (will post pictures ASAP) and have a question. Is there supposed to be an upper nose crutch? There is a lower nose crutch supplied but no upper and I can't seem to make the stock balsa crutch pieces make that sharp bend. This is the piece that forms the upper portion of the "nose" of the B-17.

Status: offline 		Upper nose crutch should be cut from sheet balsa, you will never be able to bend that part from a stick.
If you had a kit cut it should be in there. If not just cut one from 1/4" balsa sheet.

Status: offline 		Yes, I had it cut by Precision Cuts and figured there was one supposed to be in there but couldn't locate it. I contacted PC and Larry is checking into it. If all else fails, I will simply take your advice and cut it myself using 1/4 balsa.

1. Why build the fin after both sides of the fuse are complete and not while one side is pinned to the building surface?

2. What are the dimensions (if there are any) for the balsa strips used for planking the fuselage?

Found some time today to start the installation of the landinggear.

But found directly some problems and errors on the drawings.



As you can see on the image this is the drawing of part n°5 for the inboardnacelle with landinggear



This is an other drawing and the same page with details to mount the landinggear



And this is that piece (see first image) again with the allignment with image 2

So, if you look carefully, that piece n°5 isn't drawn right on that particular sheet, it's too small

Did you faced the same problem also Michael???
I think the whole nacelle must be redrawed to adjust all the mistakes in the nacelle, because I found more mistakes on that sheet.

I don't think anything is wrong at all. That former goes behind the landing gear and behind the spars. I had no trouble with mine at all. What you may be seeing is the widest part of the nacelle drawn in a front view, which would be N4 if I am not mistaken.
Look at the side view of the nacelle on the same sheet and you will see what I mean.
