Hi there Michael..Great to hear from you!!!Yes I am still working on it but at a much slower pace ..But progress never stops on it though..I have been working on the flaps..how many servos would you put to work on each flap..I have one right now on each but that seems a bit weak so maybe one more to each flap...Mike in California

Hello Michael,

Thought the same thing as you to use 2 servo's for each flap, because your dealing with a lot of surface.
Don't know which servo's I'm gonna use, but they gonna be heavy duty ones that's for sure.

Like I said, my building is suspended till the end of this year , so no more pics from me till then

Really nice work Mike. Like the way you constructed those flaps. I got lazy and simply used 1/16" birch ply w/ 1/16" balsa which really stiffened everything. What type of hinging did you use on the flap assemblies? Your hidden linkages look great!
The flap servo subject came up on the other site. You are correct on the surface area load and using one servo, though many guy's have been successful with the one. Approach speed, model weight and other factors play a part. A local friend flew his D.S. B-17 for many years with the one flap sevo configuration, though he'll use two for his next one. Two servos, ganged via Matchbox seems like the wise choice.
I got frustrated on my nacelle alignments, so I put them aside for the time being and started work on the wing panels. Fuselage and tail surfaces are completed.
Hope to post some pics once I get everything cleaned-up.

Keep those pictures of your outstanding craftsmanship coming Michael!

Nick

I went with the OS .91 pumped engines for my DS B17 as well. I even have the exhaust extensions so our thinking must have been on the same track.

My build is posted on RCScaleBuilder.com under Don Smith Designs. As of Jan 31, 2006 I am about 3/4 of the way through the build. I have fibergalss on the fuse and I am finishing up the wing now. I am modelling the Collings B17 "Nine-O-Nine".

And here are my work horses..OS 91 fs with the pump.Notice the long exhaust pipe..That will go down the side of the nacs and exhaust to the rear..Michael

Yes Hi there Dave...I would be interested in hearing from this gentelman and what he has to say...maybe he can tell me what was the BG he belonged to and what squadran he was in..who was his pilot at the time..just a couple of easy questions to see if this is legitimate..By the way..Don is the designer of this model aircraft and I am one of many builders building it..I named my particular model after the Vonnie gal and will finish her to the best of my ability to represent her and her heroic crew...Mike

Cool I talk with him last night and he really thinks this is cool, his dad flew all 25 of his mission on the Vonnie Gal as her bombardier. It was the very next mission with her new crew that it was hit. He has a great deal of information on this ship and could ansure anything you might need to know. After his fathers death he placed an add in the 8th Airforce paper and was call by the Voonie Gals piolet and from there he has more detail on her than you can believe. Please call 509-468-2198 after 5:00 our 509-570-2640-cel. e-mail = davemurph@comcast.net with your number and I call you on my dime.

Thank You again for you time. Dave
