OK here go's... I was browsing though engine choices,and found the O.S. .12 TR(P) Turbo head engine...Im intrested in the engine because it has the O.S. reliability behind it,and it doesnt cost loads of $$$... It has the high speed RPM's racers love and it puts out 1.3 hp.
The problem Im having,is wondering if it would be suitable for my losi XXX-NT...I know its classified as a touring engine but what the hecks the differnce? I know it has a pilot shaft,and I was wondering if I could just replace it with a standard long shaft. I was also wondering whats the big deal about slide vs. Rotary carbs...Engine companys always say that their off road versions come with rotary carbs... Whats the big deal if a slide is more consistent???

The main draw back with the slide carb in an off road car is the truck will want to spin out easier

I have a Slide Carb MT12 in my MST and it took a while re-learning how to use the throttle and a little expo to get the truck to come out of a corner without spinning out. I might still change back to the rotory because if I don't drive it all the time it talks a while to get smoothed out again.

The slide carbs are much more "Punchy", they just are more suited for 4WD on-roads cars.

I too always stood by OS engines, and they are good, but since I started running the MT12 I'll never go back. IMHO the best engine for the $.

You might want to look closely at the os engines. The os tr12 cost like $75 to rebuid if I remember right. I have a os cv-r15 that been good for nothing but a paper weight since I bought a fantom fr15. The fantom diffenitly has more power (1.35hp) and speed (43300rpm) then the os ever did. Not to mention I have put a little over 6 gallon through her. She is starting to show signs of a rebuild coming soon but damn, she still pulls the wheels when she gets traction. Rebuild for the fantom is only like $37. I have a fantom in my xxxnt and would highly recommend one.
