I recently recieved a new superstar ep select. I have already ordered these upgrades
    http://www.servocity.com/ServoCity/Products/SuperStar_R_C_Airplane/SuperStar_Modifications/superstar_modifications.html
it came with a Ni-cd 7 cell 8.4v 2100 mah battery pack. I am looking for a equivalent or better li-po. What minimum specifications should I look for in the Li-po?
    Thanks,
    Ron

I know i shouldn't reply to my own post, but this is the longest amount of time I have ever posted a question without someone giving a response. Did I post it in the wrong place?

It depends on the current draw, but some folks are using a Thunder Power 2s4p pack on other superstars. Other ideas are the Kolkom 1500 pack run in a 2s3p, but the current should be below 36 amps.

If you post in the wrong place, a moderator will move the message to the proper location and let you know via a PM. Since it's still here and I'm a moderator, you must've hit the right forum

Don't be offended if your question doesn't get answered immediately. All that means is that you've asked a fairly specific question, and the proper expertise has not yet happened by to answer it or comment on it. Part of the problem is your vague subject header, "What to do?" When you make a post, you stand a better chance of getting someone to read your post if your subject header has something to do with the post. In this case, "What LiPolys in a Superstar EP?" would be a good subject header. Many people skip over posts with vague subject headers; their logic is, "If they can't be bothered to put something useful in the subject header, I can't be bothered to read the post to find out what it's about."

Anyway, if you're just starting out, I would recommend that you NOT use LiPoly batteries right now, especially since this is a larger plane. LiPoly batteries pack a significant amount of energy into a small space, like dynamite, and they can react violently if they're mistreated. Get some experience working with and caring for batteries with NiCds and NiMHs first, as they're much more tolerant of newbie mistakes.

John's suggestions are good ones for the Superstar EP, for future reference.

I train new pilots with my SuperStar EP - it flies over 60 minutes per charge now on LiPos! You can see a lot of info about it here:

    http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=112961

If you are a new pilot, Matt is quite right about watching out for LiPos. They arent for everyone! However, if treated with care and charged on the proper charger, the performance is simply outstanding.

Ive also flown my SuperStar EP on the Thunder Power TP4200-2S2P packs (4200 mAh with 30 minute flight times, and the pack only costs $99.95) and TP6000-2S3P packs (6000 mAh, 40 minute flight times). Still, the ultimate set up is the TP8000-2S4P packs (8000 mAh, flight times over 60 minutes are the norm now).

If you do go for LiPos, make sure to get a GOOD LiPo charger. DO NOT buy a Super Brain 969 - this is no a proper LiPo charger! Astro Flight 109D, Schulze 330D, Great Planes Triton and the Orbit are all good LiPo chargers.

Thanks guys, those are the useful answers i usually get when i post a question. I appreciate your time and patience.

LVRCFLYER, I PM'd you, and it was the first time i had tried that feature, just wondering if it worked?

Also, I understand the dangers of the Li-po. could anyone direct me to where and what to purchase in the NIMH class to maximize my flight times?
as for the charger i have already ordered the hobbico mk-II, and a regulated power supply, I know this may not be optimal but i think it will serve my purposes for now.
    Thanks again,
    Ron
    PS
Im going to end this thread and start a new one with a better subject title to see if i get more responses.
