This is actually somewhat of a continuation from an earlier thread (subj: What to do?)

Let me begin by saying i have no flight experience, this is my first plane.

I just recieved a hobbico superstar ep select for christmas. I have assembled it with all the stock parts and am pleased, at least asthetically with the final results. I am in the process of finding an instructor to begin my training.
I have already ordered the magnetic mayhem motor, a 2.5:1 gearbox, and an APC 11x7 prop as upgrades. I have read alot about the new Li-po batteries, but understand that they can be dangerous. I am willing to sacrifice the super extended flight times of the Li-po's (at least initially) if some one can direct me to where and what to buy as the next best thing.
But, if the nimh battery option isn't significantly less $ (only based on purchase price) than the Li-po, I would rather go the Li-po route and use extreme caution.
Thanks,
Ron

For NiMH, GP3300 cells are going to be the highest-capacity cells you can get in a Sub C. On a relatively low-current plane like the Superstar EP, you should be able to get at least 10 minute flights out of them. People are getting 6+ minutes out of the stock 1900mAh NiCds.

What you should be looking at is the mAh ratings of various cells. More mAh means more flying time. LiPolys don't magically give you 30 minute flights. A 3300mAh LiPoly will give you roughly the same flying time as a 3300mAh NiMH, maybe slightly more because it weighs less.

Thanks for the comments. I understand that the more mAh the longer flight times. So, where does the voltage play in?
