quick request: anybody here have some stern covers (aka: cowlings) from the first revision of the model subs and some stern RUDDERS (not dive planes) of the second revision they'd like to sell? i'm just looking for some tail parts and i'd hate to buy another sub just for that...

Just return it, & wait for the new versions to arrive at your local Wally world outlet.
For those who just came in, here's some pics of the old & new stern fin assembly of the "Wal Mart sub.
Pic# 1 is the OLD version.
Pic# 2 is the NEW version

i don't think i'm gonna find the FIRST revision sub anywhere. as for parts from the second revision, like i said, i don't wanna buy a new sub just for 3 or 4 plastic peices. so bascially i was hoping that there might have been someone here that has some subs they either don't want anymore or maybe they took the electronics out and don't want the hull anymore or something like that

lyoko,

The post for that mod has been revised. The pencil was to point to the specific area being discussed for the mod. Thanks for calling my attention to that detail.
This sub operates on the principle of a "residual positive bouyancy." Adding ballast tanks is interesting!

Hope that clears things up!

Hey guys!

It's gonna be a long holiday weekend, how about some nice running pics? I'd really like to see some interesting surface (pool or pond) & underwater pics of this Wal Mart sub posted here.

Question:
I just got my Chicago sub and I added all the stock weight and still can't get the water level just above the fins like the instructions show!
Is it necessary to add additional weight than what is supplied right out of the box?
If so, where can I attach the weight? Mine is front bouyant and all the fins are full!
Help!

that's odd. i just needed 4 peices in the front and one in the back. maybe removing some of the air bubbles could help?

i kinda messed up the sub by removing the styro foam inside it. i cant put it back in. i thought the styro foam keeped the sub from diving. i didnt no how to dive! no it goes to the bottom. and it wont get bac to the surface. ne ideas on how tomake it float. i could just put a ballast tank in but it just would take to long. i screwed up!

I got the air all out. I ended up putting fishing line around the nose so I could attach weights. I am going to test it now.

you could always open up the sub and take some of the foam out if it's still too bouyant

Not a bad idea. If I open the sub, am I compromising any seals, or is everything inside sealed seperately? Ideally I would like to put the weight inside the sub so it is not visible.

nope, no seals to compromise. this sub has a WTC for each of the motors, and radio electronics. look at some of the pics from this thread. they show you what the insides look like before you even have to open her up

I took all your Mods and pics and created a somewhat organized word document of it all so I could follow it easier without searching the thread. If you do not mind, I could post it here for all to use?

i've been working on some of the mods posted here and noticed their obvious improvement in the handling of the sub. i did want to comment that i used a 6 cell nimh 700mah battery pack and it was obviously much lighter than the stock 4 cell AA battery arrangement. this made the sub's metacentric height smaller. (i assume i'm using the term correctly here). to reduce this roll tendency, i added some styrofoam to the top part of the hull where i had extra space so that the foam would be just below the water line when everything was trimmed out right. b/c of this extra foam, i added some extra weight to the inside of the battery cover so the center of gravity was lowered. this seemed to reduce the roll tendency at surface cruising and when underwater, the roll due to the increased torque from the propeller was reduced even more. maybe tomorrow i'll get some pics up...

Opened the Pool for the holiday and camped at a site with a nearby pond. . . .

checkout these one-hand holding camera one using the controller -> QuickTime Movies (4MB - .MOV):

http://www.2and2.net/Priv/surface_run.MOV

http://www.2and2.net/Priv/dive_dive.MOV

And then out at the camp site. . . .

over 50 ft. out - actually was able to control out to 80 ft. and then sub lost signal -

had to go to other side of pond about a 125 ft. across. . . .
