I am 14 and just got my 40 size flip 3d. It came with metal hinges but i want to use CA hinges and put a saito 91 in it. My question is with CA hinges how do i do it so its not loose i am thinking of putting 8 hinges in each aileron side by side. But i am afraid they may be to loose. Or i could double them up on top of each other. I dont know how this will work. I dont want to put metal hinges on it because i am not fast enough to put the epoxy in both the wing and aileron then put the hinge on. Thanks for the help in advance.

OK, I understand you not wanting to use the metal hinges, because of the epoxy thing and I think I have a solution for you. This is what I did with mine and it has worked perfectly. I do not care to use any type of glue on metal myself, especially when it comes to hinging. First of all fold your hinges in half and either smear a little wax or spray the pin area with some WD-40 or something. It doesn't take much but since we are going to use CA at the end, I just want to have a little back up in case some glue runs into the pin area of the hinge.

Next take the Surface itself and hold the hinge on the outside of it in line with the slot, and mark where the holes are in the hinge on the bottom of each surface. Once this is done all the way around the plane you can take a small drill and on the BOTTOM of the plane drill out the marks you just made, being careful not to go through to the top of the wing. (If you do its no big deal, its a clear plane anyway, and pick a side for the rudd.)
Once you have this step completed slide all the hinges in and insert a toothpick or small dowel into each hole, making sure to go through your hinge, and that will pin it so it will not come out. Put a drop of thin CA on each spot and you should be good to go.

As for the Saito 91, I think that may be a mistake. Not that its a bad engine in general, but it will shake that airframe to death, plus its going to be much heavier then a Y.S. 63, or just a standard 2 stroke 40, with one of the performance specialties muscle type mufflers. Doesn't Saito also make a 70 or something? If its your only motor, and you go that route, just make sure you get it mounted really good, and run a balanced prop with the tank in the nose location, not over the wing.

Let me know how you make out

Good Luck
Chip

Ok, I am gonna have to read the hinge thing a couple of times to understand All i have right now is the saito 91. I will probably put that in it unless something turns up where i can get a ys 63. I wont get it done for a while because my work shop is not at my house its about 5 min away. And i cant drive so this makes it harder. Thanks for the solution, I will try to do that.
