i have burned out my piston and sleeve, and am about to rebuild. I lost almost all compression. any tips on rebuilding? this is the DTX .18 motor. How many tanks do you guys get through a tank before the piston and sleeve need to be replaced. I know i leaned mine out too much at the race last weekend. Need to invest in a temp gun.(any suggestions there? i heard they can be off.)

also any tips to lengthen the life of a piston and sleeve, i read a suggestion that after running put the piston to bottom dead center while cooling to leave the top open to shrink back.(metal expands when hot right?)

Dicko- i had the same problem with my tank spilling all over the chassis but then i realized i just need to push down the cap on the tank till the rubber ring on it was completely down in the tank sealing it. As long as i do that no fuel ever spills on my chassis anymore.

Also i had been experiencing high temps with my dtx .18 after about a gallon of running. I decided to remove the metal shim between the head and crankcase. I also changed to a different brand of fuel. I retuned it and it has improved performance drastically. And lower temps. Way lower, went from 290-300 to 220-230 and performance is much better.

hi about the fuel tank i had the same prob but under the lid theres a screw tighten it
    make that seal widen out

    Big Red:
You'll have a lot more fun in the hobby if you learn to do your own maintenance. These cars are simple enough that you can fix pretty much any problem you have by yourself. You just have to learn how to troubleshoot to figure out the problem.

When you run the truck, does the clutch bell spin? If no then your clutch is the likely culprit.
Set the truck (not running) on the ground and rotate the spur gear, is the topshaft going into the tranny spinning? If no, then your slipper is the likely problem. Do the diff outdrives both spin? If neither, then it's probably in the tranny somewhere. If one spins, then check the cv joint and axle on that side.

If it's in the tranny, i would suspect either the idler or the diff. These aren't too hard to pull apart and put back together. Keep your manuals handy. If you're going to open up your diff, be aware that there's a bunch of bearings inside that may come out. Get some black grease for the thrust bearing and Stealth diff lube (both by associated) for when you put it back together.

    Good luck.

Hello, I am new here and new to forums. I have been running electric buggy's and trucks for years. I have gotten my first nitro ever. The nitro evader st. I need to replace my fuel line and was wondering if anyone could tell me which size I need. Also I would like to remove my pullstart (dtx.18) if anyone could tell me what to get for the backplate. I have read all the posts (took forever) and don't remember finding anything about this.
    Thank you for any help.

You will get more help in the newer version of this thread as no one checks this anymore. As for fuel line it is a standard thing just cut it as you want, but longer is better. As for removing the pullstart there is no non pull backplate for it, but if you are going to a starter box you can just leave it there it will be fine.
