Hi there. I have a Sterling Cosmic Wind with a 34" wingspan. I wanted to know, about what year was this model kitted? I don't have any model magazines older than '72. I'm guessing by the condition of the box, maybe in the '60's. If anyone knows, let me know. Thanks, Kurt.

Check here for some information. I believe that if the plans show single channel gear, then it was produced somewhere between 1964 - 1970. It's kit #FS-11, right?

I believe it came out in the 60's. I have built 3 of those over the years and my first one was with a s/c galloping ghost system. Last one had a 3 channel radio and wasn't the best but with todays equipment it would be great. Not a great kit to build, wood was typical Sterling quality. For today you would never put that much dihedral in it. Incidentally the wing isn't all that thick so in spite of the chunky fuselage it moved fairly well with a Cox Super Bee. Dennis

I believe you are right. I saw a Sterling forum and they had taken photos of a 1965 Sterling sales catalog and I saw this kit on one of the pages. The box looks like pre-'70 manufacturer packaging. The kit # is FS-11. Thanks for the help.

Didn't Sterling make a control line Cosmic wind with a profile fuselage??

I know I built one of these back in the early 70's powered with my Fox .35. Man, I can't remember
who kitted it though. I looked on the Sterling website and couldn't find it in any of those catologue pages.
I thought it was a Sterling kit but maybe I was wrong on that one Sure was a nice flyer!

Goldenage, the Cosmic Wind that your trying to remember was a C/L kit by Carl Goldberg kits. It was one of 3 of the old formula racers that they did. The other 2 were the Shoestring and the Buster. Cost was about $4.00 when introduced. Brodak Manufacturing had acquired the right s to the kits and may introduce it again. However there is a close replica from RSM kits called the Miss Sarah. The only diviation is the fuse has a turtle deck instead of just a canopy, otherwise it is a very close copy ,dimensionally.
There were never any real plans to these kits as the'plans' were dimensional drawings and pictorial guide to assembly, so scratchbuilding one fromC.G. plans is not an option.

Rumor mill has it that John will reintroduce the Shoestring first (it was the most popular of the three, followed by the Buster and the somewhat scarce CW) and possibly followed by the Wooten Voodoo combat ship. Caveat-this is pure rumor! Also, John B already has a kit of the Buster, not the CG version, but very similar.

Thanks for refreshing my memory Dennis! It was the CG kit indeed. Geez, I'm not that old at 45!! Could have something to do with raising two teenagers
