My new sport maxx does not have any foam for the tires, is this normal and do I need foam?

i dont think so,they must do some thing but i lost the foams for my dads savage and they dont make a difference

Godlyone's right, you need it. It helps maintain the shape of the tire both at rest and at speed, and helps with balance as well. You can get some at LHS or probably on ebay pretty cheap. You might be able to use an alternative as well.

Without foam inserts, your tires will "grow" in height as your speed increases, do to centrifugal force exerted by high tire rpm. This will cause the handling characteristics to change as your speed changes.

Foam helps tires keep shape and besides the traxxas foam only costs something like 10 dollars for the whole set.
