I'm at the point of attaching the booms to the center pod. The tube that runs in the center pod wing out to the fuselages terminates where the out wing panels attach.

If you've built one of these beasts, I'd like to know how you ran the airlines and servo extensions to the fuselages. Did you cut out the bottom of the wing inside the fuselage? I don't see anything on Nick's plan set about how to do this.

thanks!!

Larry,
I did route the pneumatic lines and the servo leads through both the top and bottom of the wing inside each boom. As I recall, the retract lines exit on the bottom, and the servo lines on top. Also I seem to recall the necessity for removing portions of the wing skin inside the booms to clear the retract mechanism (I use the Robart gear). I built my P-38 5 years ago, and I hangar it assembled, so I'm speaking from memory, as i haven't dissasembled it for some time. You can see photos of my '38 at this address: http://www.1nvrc.com/Big-Bird.html

Hope you enjoy your Lightning as much as I do.

I just finished my P-38, I also cut the bottom of the wing sheeting for the Robarts, and for the air lines. The servo wires exit the top sheeting. Larry, you may want to recommend, on your web site, that builders use 3/4" ID cardboard tubes in the wing center section. I had a hard time getting all of the wires and air hoses through the tubes.
I am planning my first flight this weekend, Any words of wisdom Howard?

Thanks guys for sharing your experiences. I put mine together for the first time on its own legs on my pool table this past weekend. I need to get retracts working, all control surfaces working and painted.

Hopefully, it will fly this summer. Howard, I'm inspired by the fact that you are still flying yours after a number of years! That's at tribute to you as a builder as well as a pilot!

Regards,

Larry Brannan
