I have a 63FZ in a TF p-47 under construction, It has 3 hrs. run-in time on the block, and I am impressed with its unique design and performance. I have been wondering, though, how much flight time the silicone rubber valves in the fuel system can be expected to endure, given that no petroleum based oil is put in the engine. Anyone have a long-time run experience with them?

Another thought : What kind of performance can I expect in a Top Flite 63" P-47 ? Would prefer empirical input....Thanks. Bogie

Thats a good question. I have two YS91AC's that are 4-5 years old. Both still run fine.

I would suggest replacement on a routine interval, the fuel pressure diaphragm is inexpensive and cheap insurance. The nitro used in our fuels can and will deteriorate and or cause the silicone to delaminate. I have seen numerous engines still running strong at five years plus. As mentioned some petroleum based oils will cause harm to the the silicone as well.

The YS 63 is a powerful engine, that said a 10-11lb Warbird behind it will effect less than stellar performance, more like a scale power to weight ratio.

I have a YS 120SC in mine, it's just right.....

Thanks for the input, Mike. I'll never learn all there is to know about these models ( isn't that where the fun hides?). As a sport scale modeler, I aim for realistic performance, and view weight as my prime enemy, so I opted for the .63, hoping that it wouldn't be underpowered. Mine turns 9800 on a Master Airscrew 13-6 & 20-20 fuelafter 3 hrs run-in,which I thought was about right for the jug, which I hope to keep < 9 lb( ? )......Bogie
