Been in a real heli a few times. Really strange to just lift of the ground vertically and fly off.

Nope, not really. We fly 200-300 AGL during most water drops and are constantly making control inputs to maintain the desired altitude, heading, and airspeed. The decrease in weight when doing a water drop is almost instinctively compensated by the pilot without given it much thought.

Olathe, KS has a CH-47D unit..great bird to watch when they are practicing sling loads.

I allways liked working with 212s. Not very high tech and not as fast as others, but reliable and easy to work on.

Hey Homebrewer...

Who do you fly for and ow does one get into the firefighting field?? I'm working on my commercial (checkride on Nov 26th) and instrument right now and hope to have my CFII-H early next year... What kind of hours do you need to even interview with a firefighting (or heavy lift) organization? My ultimate goal is to fly S-64s in some capacity, preferrably firefighting...

Thx!
