Status: offline 		You brought back a good memory for me John when you said you fly somewhere for lunch. In high school and after I got my ticket I picked up my girlfriend and told her Dad we were going for lunch and be back later that evening, no problem says he!!!! Now can you see where I am going here??? When we got back he asked where we had lunch and why it took most of the day, and I said we had lunch in Santa Barbara, well he looked at me and said we couldn't have driven that so quickly and of course with the most innocent look I could muster and slowly creeping my way near the front door I says Who Drove? Well he got this funny look on his face and says to his Daughter, how did you get there and she just giggled and said we FLEW!!!!! Damn it was like an artillery shell going off and I was saying my prayers but all was cool as we were back safe but the Father did draw me to the side and said that if I ever did that again without him knowing about it I would walk funny the rest of my life!!!!! Man that was so long ago!!!!

Status: offline 		I solo'd in Springfield, Mo. a lot of years ago on a Cessna 150. Got current again last year. R/C is kinda a substitute for not being able to fly as much as I'd like. R/C is more difficult, in my opinion, but it's all good!

Status: offline 		Started flying r/c in college in the mid 80's. Sort of got carried away with this whole aviation thing. 10,000+ hrs later I'm back in r/c. ( now that I finally paid off all of the loans to get my ratings)

I got some ties at United. My Father in Law flew for them for 30+ years (ORD). Retired in Feb 99'. He was 37 in the early years and ended on the 27. He loved the 27. Never wanter to get in the glass if ya know what I mean. He hates computers and I dont even think he uses on today! He also used to fly Huey's in Nam. He watched "We Were Soldiers" and said it blew him away. He said the movie was so accurate that he was looking for himself. The pilot that Greg Kinear played was his CO, and he flew into that particular "Arena" several times. He doesn't talk too much about it, but when he does I'm glued to his story! I just wish he'd open up and tell me. Also I have all my Great Uncle's WWII stuff. Everything you could think of! He flew P-38's and was killed in Germany straffing a Marshalling yard locomotive. It blew up and took him out. Some of the guys he flew with are still alive and I stay in touch. Once I get my camera back I will post some pics. I have his logbook, wings, bars, purple heart, air medal (3), casket flag, officer hat, etc.... The stuff is a pure trip back in time!!

Status: offline 		I grew up playing in a 1937 Fairchild 24 (NC19164) fuselage in our garage. Dad was a partner in it, and someone ground looped it. They said let's put it in his garage and they'd fix it in six months. 40 some odd years later dad sold it off to someone who had the resources to restore it. He took me flying in other planes when I was 6 months old. I started building plastic models when I was 8 (1963). We started flying RC when I was in 8th grade. I wanted to be the first Polack on Mars so I went off to Parks College and the USAF ROTC program. Ended up learning to fly at Bellville area college because I couldn't afford to fly at my own school!! Came out as an Aero engineer, A&P and PP MEL. I've added SEL to that since then. Log book says I've flown 400 hours in 48 different airplanes. Never had the time and the money at the same time to own one. Oh did I say I work for the FAA too?

Status: offline 		I keep an '81 Mooney at White Plains, NY. My father was a lifer for Delta and retired flying the 757/767. I finally got my ticket in '93 and have about 1,000 hours now.

Status: offline 		Started flying at 17 and began taking aerial pictures for insurance and title companies to pay for my instruction. Also did some line inspecting for an oil company one I got rated. Started getting headaces and sinus problems about three years ago and had my medical pulled. Went back to school to complete an engineering degree to pay the bills. Just had an operation on my inner ear to correct the problem. Now starting that wonderful process of getting the FAA to re-instate me but I have to wait 18 months without a reoccurance of the problem before they will sign off.

Status: offline 		Just pulled my log book out…wow, 20 years since I soloed. Pages have even yellowed. I didn't think I was that old! Was an AP/IA, DOM of 135 operation. MU2B-35, PA31-350, C310’s Left aviation about 8 years ago for computer programming…family had to eat!

Status: offline 		scottrc, keep it up! My dad had a similar situation after heart trouble. It took a lot of phone calls, doctor appts., treadmills, you name it, but did finally get his medical back. It takes lots of perseverance, but sooner or later the FAA will give in!

As for me, I quit my job in Jan. 2000 to pursue my dream of getting my PPL. 2 months later and 40.75 hrs. I passed my test and received my "license to learn." That had to be the greatest accomplishment of my life. My instructor was your typical "only here to build hours" kind of person. He wanted nothing to do with flight training and couldn't care less if his students ever took the test. I had to basically create the daily lessons so I could stay on track. Unfortunately that is the the reality of today's flight training environment. But, I digress...

I now own a C150M with my Dad (N6822G) and love every minute of it. It certainly is nice to not have to rent some old beat up tin-can for way too much money. It's nice sharing it with my dad also (not to mention only having to pay 1/2 the maint. costs! )

Every summer my wife and fly up to our friends cabin near Superior and just hang out and love life. It is a wonderful 2 hr. flight that I look forward to every time.

I was building a Sonex homebuilt, but unfortunately due to some financial difficulties had to abandon the project. Someday I will start again and take all that I learned and improve on my last effort.

I am happy there is finally a full-scale forum where we can feel free to talk about everything related to flying!

Status: offline 		Hey folks! Started flying in 1994. Received my Private in 1995. Got my Instument and commercial multi engine in 1998. 2000 I was accepted by the Air Force to fly. 2001 I received my wings along with 300 hours in the T-37 and T-1 trainers (Beechjet) and a type rating in the Beechjet. I was assigned to the C-17 as my primary aircraft. I currently have 1300 hours in the jet in two years! (Read-I hate Afghanistan and Iraq.....but I did get 1300 hours!)

Currently working for West Isle Air in the San Juan Islands and am having fun, but am trying to move on from scud running in 206 and 207s.

Status: offline 		hey guys.....i started flying in 99 and i am all the way through multi engine commercial now. my life is dominated by aviation. i build scale models, R/C, worked the past 5 years ramp/ deicer/ load planner for United, fly combat simulators online, and fly toward my career. oh yea.....and im helping a friend of mine build a RV-6. i started flying aerobatics with the EAA chapter president of aerobatics here in milwaukee. still my favorite thing to do is fly the Citabria into little grass strips that nobody uses. im looking for my first job to build my hours but there isnt much out there right now for a fresh graduate.
