Yeah we started a project with 9 guys from our club.

The Suitcase Minnie:

Some of the guys will make an electro version, others will make a fuel version.

Week 1 :Making the blades

Everybody is having fun with sandpaper
The guy with the long hair is me.

the guy with the nightwish shirt also walks around here on RCU, DualdudE

The guy with the Hat is our chief engineer . He's also on Autogyro.com

Next thing is balancing the blades The chief is showing how

And our homework for next week: Solartex on the blades and reinforcing the mounts with a piece of plywood.

Next Tuesday we will build again. And hopefully wednesday the new pic's will be online

Week 2: Making the rotor control unit.

For this week we needed to bring some strong plastic, jerrycan is perfect. This is used for as a hinge between the rotor's and for moving left or right.

The starting materials:

The first thing was maken the joint for the rotor (metal pin) , this part is also used for tilting the rotor left or right. As seen it is made out of 2 piece of wood an the piece of jerrycan. the jerrycan and the metal pin is sandwiched between the wood. It is connected with 4 bolts and nuts and some glue to prevent the metal pin from moving.

The second thing was making the part which make the rotor unit go up or down. As seen it consist out of the sandwich methode and a metal pin again.

Fot the triangle rotor unit also the sandwich method is used.

Everyone is working hard :P

The "Minnies" fly great. Mine is also a bit heavy!!
I have tried a Jeti 15/3 and 8 x 4 prop on 8 cells but it was too heavy. Bill

Hi,
That was a quick reply. Please let me know how it flies on electric power. Thanks. Bill
I attach another photo, this time of a " Silverbird" which was a kit from Sweden some 6 years ago. OS 45 power free wheeling rotor and elevons and rudder on the tail.

Yesterday we finnished the rotor unit and started on building the hull and pylon

Here you can see the finnished unit from last week. Now we put in a metal bushing and a metal pin for the hinge movement.

Here a bigger hole has been drilled into the rotor connetion part. In the hole a cilinder is put in. This cilinder contains out of to ballbearings and two metal pipes. One put into the other to prevent the ballbearings from moving.

Now a slot is carved into the 2 cilinders. The cilinder is put into the rotor connection part (must be tide fit) with glue. The carved slot will prevent the cilinders from moving.

These are the parts for the pylon and hull. (engine mount and landinggear holder and spacing parts are missing)

Pylon being glued. It is containing out of two half with and some spacers. (sorry no pitcure of it)

Final result

Now we started on building the hull. Here you can see the bottom plate and the side platings put together. The engine mount helps keeping shape. Next to the needles you can see the landinggear holder. this part is glued between the bottom front of the side hull platings. (Damn, it sounds like a Star Trek battle ship )

If you look carefull you can see the extra placed square block to strenghten the landinggear.

The next picture shows all the build components of today. At the hull you can see 2 extra decks . Between thes the pylon is kept and also the tail pipe ( see first picture topic) which in this case is from carbon but ours will prolly be from aluminimum because it a lot cheaper.
You can also see there is an exta piece of wood glued onto the pylon. This will be given a round shape for airodynamics.

Here a picture of use working really hard

It is winter here, cold and the spraypaint just doesn't want to dry.

Spaying inside is often not liked by other inhabitants

So i came with the idea to build a spray cabine

Things needed:

- Garbagebags
- Transparent plastic
- and lots of ducktape

The bottom and roof.

The sides.

Lights

Version1. 1 problem. The spray ended up in my face .

A piece of transparent plastic solved that problem.

With a hole of course
