for somebody who claims they are always right you sure do get defensive and like to curse! Personally I think they both are horrible buys, but yes i agree, at least you are only down 50 with the xmod opposed to 150 with the miniz. both are cheapily made. YOu can keep pretending that I haven't ever owned an RC car, but that won't make it true

popa71, frankie says relax!

All I've owned is a Terra Crusher sigh your lack of knowledge is as much as a mouse. Let me jus name a few, 12L3, Emaxx, Tmaxx, 4tec, Terra Crusher, TA-02, Mini-T, Jus got a new MBX4 XR works, may not be brand new, but nice nonetheless, along with many others like the MiniZ you are talking about. You might as well stop posting because it's only making you look more idiotic.

Hello to everyone in RC Universe! New to these forums and relatively new to RC (<3 yrs.) but have had a lot of experience with minis and micros so far, and just starting out with planes and Helis.....

Nothing like jumping into the fire!

I am not absolutely sure on how the rules apply to linking to posts on other boards so if I overstep the boundaries please smack me down.

Among my other RC toys, I own a MiniZ and an Xmod so hopefully I can offer my observations on the two cars here.

I have loads of hopups for each type of car however I will note that I do not use any homebrew style hopups such as fets, cell mods and the like so treat this information for what it is.

In stock form, the MiniZ is faster HANDS DOWN.

The MiniZ with a 6t pinion and 4 AA batts top out at about 10MPH

The XMOD with the stage1 8t pinion and 4 AA batts top out at about 6~7MPH

The review in the January edition of Xtreme RC cars that you guys mentioned quotes a 6.5MPH speed from a radar gun but note that the car was in completely stock form as the reviewer mentions.

In the RC Car Action February edition First Drive feature of the Xmod the reviewer had the stage two motors and possibly the NiMH 750mAh batts, I am not sure as he does not mention it but that would account for the speed differences that you guys are talking about. We all know that a faster motor coupled with NiHM instead of Alkalines can give any car especially a mini a speed boost.

The MiniZ has full proportional steering (512 steps) wheras the Xmod has only about 16 steps which I believe is why you cannot interchange the AM crystals and use other controllers.

Here is a link to a good thread on another forum that discusses the differences between the Xmods and the MiniZs:

Xmods vs MiniZs

My current MiniZ has the following configuration which I use for racing on a faily technical 20'x40' track every Friday:

BBs
Xspeed
30deg semi wide fronts
40deg Wide rears
multi angle side roll shock set
hard springs all around
kyosho ball diff
780mAh AAA bats
8t pinion
top mount adjustable main shock
some aluminum parts for looks

basically it is around 150 dolllars worth of hopups. add that to the Z totals around 280 dollars.

My Yellow Skyline Xmod includes

BBs
Stage 2 11tooth motor
Hard slicks
hard suspension springs all around
AWD kit
780mAh AAA bats
mild body kit

basically it is around 130 dollars.

Technical course I race on:

MiniZ: perfect for the track fastest laps and easiest to drive.
Xmod: fast in the straightaways but turning radius hurts the car on the technical track.

In an open 120 foot low pile carpet drag strip:

MiniZ: good acceleration and speed but places 2rd; wanders a bit as well.
Xmod: straight tracking throughout and finishes faster then the MiniZ, starting behind it to begin with, and pulling past it at about the 80 foot mark.

In terms of performance you get what you pay for. The Xmod is a great value, there is no disputing that, but the MiniZ has an OCEAN of hopups that carry it above and beyond what the XMOD can do as long as you are willing to pay. Make no mistake about it, the MiniZ is a hobby class RC car wheras the Xmod is a very well designed RC car that blurs the line between an RC toy car and a hobby class RC car.

In terms of having fun both are a blast to drive and I highly recommend both.

I already own a Mini-T and it has a lot more than $70.00 extra dollars in it.

Hey Tigger, is it just me or is Team Losi taking their weet time releasing the Aluminum Oil Shocks?!?! That is the the last thing I am waiting for before getting my MiniT. Friction spring holders just look bad on such a great truck...

That's not an RCP track is it? I run on a 25'x16' RCP track and everyone is running 20's (Enzo Rears) and 30's (MR-01/02rm/02mm front). An 8 tooth is pretty hard to use on the local track since the high top end is not as useful in the corners, especially without non-Kyosho hop-ups.

Regarding the Mini-T, it seems Losi just wanted to get the truck out before X-mas and catch a few extra sales--I tried putting some masking tape at the top part of the rear shocks. I took it off since all the truck wanted to do was flip over in the turns; however, it was pretty dang easy to pop wheelies that way. The shafts are like jello now after all the dirt jumping.

A diagram of the local RCP track can be found at the bottom link. Then again, you may have already seen the pictures I posted at MiniZracer.com. How about http://www.superrc.net ? If you haven't and join SuperRC, tell them I sent you.

Casey you are a total idiot. In the review he tells of all mods he did to his personal XMOD and he shows a picture of it at the begining of the article. but the car in the review is completely stock. He even says the Xmods run 11.2 mph stock. those were his exact words. You are such an idiot you didnt even read the review and if you did you are having trouble comprehending. Thats why you rarely post in the Monster Truck forum because we cant stand your post. They never make any sense. Why dont you try and read the review!!!!!!!!!!!!

Popa71, look there is no need to get so amped up over this....I mean really does this need to resort to name calling?

I know that you said that you have one and have run it stock and that you have modded it with all the extras and that it moves at about 15mph. When you ran it stock, did you actually measure the speed? Also, what are you using to measupre the top speed of the car? What batts were you using, what pinion did you have?

I am not asking you these question because I think you are lying, rather I actually want to know what you saw. The reason is that when I tested out my Skyline Xmod stock out of the box I measured it with a radar gun which is not the most accurate way but useable for raw performance numbers

http://www.astroproducts.net/speedchek2.htm

I have emailed RC Car Action to get clarification on the matter so hopefully we will know soon. I do know that a stage 2 11 tooth with 780 NiMH batts can hit 15MPH but I think you may need to refresh your memory on how slow it was with the stock stage1 8 tooth.

I do like the Xmods, but anyone that has both and has worked with them knows that the MiniZ is superior to the Xmods only because it is in a different class which leads to a typical "apples and oranges" discussion. heck, the steering electronics in the MiniZ ALONE place it above the Xmods in terms of quality and performance.

My moded car was tested with my buddys new jugs cordless radar gun. It has the 11 tooth gear and nickle metal hydride batteries.

I have no hostility towards you or any of the other guys in the forum. But Casey often speaks on issues he has no knowledge of, just like the article he refered to. The car tested was stock but the writer of the article spoke of his moded car. Casey is often riduculed in the Monster truck forum for his post. On top of it all why would you say you think minis are a waste of money and then have the nerve to post in the forum!!!!! if you dont like them stay out!!! Do you see the amount of posts he has its from skiping around the site looking for trouble

I never said the XMODs were of better quality than MiniZs only that they were a better buy
