Actually the frame weighs less than the fiberglass body. Most of the vehicles weight comes from the drive train. I suppose this could either be simplified or optimized to reduce wieght but there is an issue with sourcing the parts and the associated costs of specialized parts. If you look at the complexity of the drivetrain, suspension, mechanics it would be quit the task to develop a fiberglass hull the would be able to A: have these components bolt up to and B: withstand the loads created by these components.

Yes, true the drive train is complex, but does it need to be?

That is simply awsome! You should make and sell them, you'd be able to go into business for yourself.

He could only sell them if they actualy hovered, and i doubt it will. I dont understand why you need a hovercraft with wheels anyway.

Hovercraft are amphibious, so it flys over land as well.

Hovercrafts are limited in what they can travel over on land. With wheels you have the option of driving offroad, something that a hovercraft is not capable of. Also, a hovercraft is limited in it's manueverability. Obviously a vehicle with wheels or treads has more control than a vehicle that floats over the surface and is propelled simply with a fan.

At this point there is no reason to believe that the vehicle will not hover. It is still within the calculated weight limits.

Incidentaly due to a personal injury I will not be able to finish the project by the expected deadline (May 7th) and will be working on it through the summer.

Don't have time to go into the details of the project but here are two updated pictures

1) Here I am trying to program the controller for the steering system. The steering uses a microcontroller with a PID progam. The steering still needs to be tuned

2) This is what I was able to acomplish for the school presentation on May 14th. The vehicle does drive with forward and reverse. Some of the features that do work include, remote start and stop with choke and throttle control, effective-working liquid cooling system, 4-wheel hydraulic disc brake system (they work very well!), and remote control over the vehicle ride height. I hope to work on the hovercraft portion this summer.

Very impressive, what do you do for a living. Must be something technical because that machine is very well built.

Woah Jeez! thats pretty good. but as everyone else says- its seems too heavy. if its gonna be really heavy then u will need a very strong motor/engine or something to get that to lift coz if its going to b amphibious then its goin to need to go on water. btw, how old are you, do u go to a college or a high skool?

i completly respect the build and effort... but.. that size of a machine and money spent you could of bought one and made it into a remote control.. my suggestion next time is to duplicate a "duk" from wwii would be easier to build and look really sharp....
