Actually it's not. It is however about a decade old. The shot was taken with a very long lens. I had read the factual report from the pilot who did it. He was about an 1/8 mile off the side of the carrier, the telephoto lens just compressed the image to make it look like he's on top of the deck.

The flyby is real, but the caption on that particular version of the photo is BS (though widely distributed).

The pilot doing the flyby of USS America is Dale 'Snort' Snodgrass, who in his 26 years of flying the F14 supposedly has more hours in type than anyone else on the planet.
