Currently I am just renting aircraft from a Good FBO that has insurance.

Do you think it is necessary to have additional renters insurance ??

Thanks,

In my opinion, YES! The FBO's insurance company is paid by the FBO, and he is their client, not you. They will try to find a reason that you caused an event, and not the FBO's aircraft. The cost of renter's insurance is one reason I moved from flying full scale to flying R/C. I guess it really depends on how much you can afford to lose. Even if you just prang the airplane and don't cause any other property damage it can still be a big amount to pay back.

Ask them what their deductable is. The renters ins will cover that too. Most use like $1000 deductable. I would look into it if you fly a lot.

I had a flight school and a guy ran one of mine out of fuel. We didn't go back on him for it. Depends on the school. After I gave it up, they had another guy wreck one doing dumb things and they didn't go back on him either. I know of another school that lost two over the years and they didn't go back on the student in either of those. It is better to be covered than not in an accident though.

After flying full scale for over 25 years my advice is "YES" you can't have to much if something goes wrong. Look into "AOPA" they can help you alot.
