My Skylark has been upgraded to use an APC 15x8 prop by making new gear mains that extend an inch longer. The 15x8 will better facilitate the use of 4s Lithium packs on the AXI 4120/14 motor.

I also installed a new Slimline X-treme pilot to handle the extra power!

I'll let you know after the Memorial Weekend flying event. I have this Skylark and the Graupner Extra 300S to test fly with virtually the same power systems except one uses 16-cells of CP1700 NiCd and the other uses 4s2p Kokam 2AH (20C) cells for a 4AH total capacity that can deliver 84amps continuous!

I would suggest a 2.5:1 gearing swinging a 14X7E prop on 14 cells. This should yeild about 36 amps with 5.8 pounds of thrust.

Thanks mike, this is a lil different but it is a AXI 2820/10 with 2:1 GBX, 14 x 7 and 12 cells. Trying it on Sunday morning. Prop recommendations with this setup?
    Thanks

That may be an ok temperature. Different people have a varying heat threshold on their fingertips.

Make sure that you have a good air flow across the motor in flight and it is probably going to be fine.

That picture looks like you're dangling the plane out the window for light.

Greg, can you give me an update on your skylark conversion. I have the 4120/14 like your original conversion and I am thinking I can get a 5s2p Tanic pack to power it using a 13/8 APCe prop. What are your thoughts.

I have used this with a 3s2p Tanic pack with this prop and it pulled around 28 amps. It flew, but it wasn't with authority. I want to get some blistering fly-bys, if I chose to make an impression.

Can you give me some feedback.

    Thanks,

    Longarm

    Hi Marshall,

I actually started a new thread (with photos) on my upgrade called Super Skylark e-Conversion in this forum. It has probably dropped a few pages back by now.

In summary, my Skylark has been upgraded to a power level that can perform knife-edge loops and it looks incredibly better with Carl Goldberg glass-filled gear mains and Funtana .90 yellow pants.

I was very dissapointed when Hobby Lobby stopped selling this pattern plane because it was plenty of plane for the money. A great pattern plane for those on a budget. I'll still fly mine next season as I bought a spare during their dump off sale.
