Was the pipe supported just behind the header and the end of the pipe too. Or was it supported only at the end and the header supported the front of the pipe?

Status: offline 		Is your pipe mounted in one place or two? I suspect that if it's mounted in two spots, there isn't enough flex in the system (as your engine moves around on the Hyde mount). There's a lot of leverage on that header when you consider low long the whole setup really is...

Status: offline 		Their are 2 mounts. The front one consists of "o" rings held in place in a way which offers almost no resistance to the header movement

The rear one is a 1/2" silicone tube.

I ran the Webra 1.45 with the Greves pipe system. I got the plane, engine and all already together and I noticed that the header was made of steel. Your header to me looks like a Mueller header from the photos. I ran the OS 160 with the Mueller header and what we did to keep them from cracking is to cut the header in half or a portion of it to make two parts. Then hold everything together with two couplers. From the looks of the coupler you are using, you will not have any blowouts. Try cutting the next header in two parts and use two couplers and let the header support the front of the pipe. The header will hold it just fine and the extra coupler will give it more flexability so the header will not crack.

I'm not sure where you got your header. The Mueller headers are really nice and I know Horizon imports or carriers the Webra engines and parts including the pipes, headers and so forth. Where the steel header came from that I had, I don't know but it worked great. My engine had the regular two needle carb. and when I first got the thing it almost whipped me. I take pride in my abillities in tuning engines and this was tough. When I finally understood how she worked I actually got to run very well. Shoot, I had someone give me an almost new 1.45 cause they could not make it run. I could get to back flip it the first time every time after the first start of the day, and it ran very economical too. But that's the past and we've moved on to YS.

Most real good hardware stores will have those clamps. They are not expensive either. I purchased some at an Ace Hardware Store for about .50 each and they work great.

Look into Bolly gear. ES made some superb gear legs, however the last I heard, they were retooling and are out of stock.

I got Bolly F3A Large gear for my Focus as well as a carbon wing tube from her.
Saved a LOT of weight. I also changed wheel pants and did this for the tank:

Got rid of the 5 cell NiMh and now run a 2s LiPo.
You may also want to consider removing all that from the front of your plane and get a Hyde mount with integrated nose ring.

Status: offline 		I went back to a 24 oz Dubro for now but will run the pop bottle again.
It holds up fine but will actually shrink a little bit from the CoolPower 30%. Easy to just screw another one on.
And like the thread says, the round bottle feeds extremely well.

That's not a stainless steel bar for wing tube...
It's just how the light reflected off the carbon fiber.
And yes, my cowl did yellow but Piedmont sent me a new one no charge.
I REALLY like the Bolly gear. The gear and the wheel pants saved me over 6oz from stock.

Status: offline 		At our recent contest, Joseph bought a FOCUS II from Dr. Frank. A great setup and it flies great. Guerin built plane. However it had an instance of the wing tube just a little loose in the sockets was caused by the phenolic developing a bit of slop around the ply end piece. A few cuts, dab of epoxy and micro balloons, balsa pieces to re-cover and some filler to get it all back to new. Joseph wanted a custom color scheme, as usual. He is demonstrating the proper use of razor to lift the old covering off.

Status: offline 		And he also has developed a "bat" idea to fly around and scare the teenagers as they come up to the door on Halloween night. E-powered, eyes, nose and mouth, and the motor must be on the front. Its his initial design.

Airplane Focus is back in the air.  The repaired wing and new color scheme per Joseph looks great.  He comments its very visible.  The Webra 1.45 is exchanged for a YS 160 DZ which still runs on the 3 blade with good results.   I got a couple questions on the wing setup also on the Black Magic and its actually a FOCUS I wing not a FOCUS II wing.  A great airfoil.

The only modification I made was to dremel out the first 2 inches of the belly pan, expand the front bulkhead by about a half inch all around, and then glass over the open bay, then touch up paint to seal it up. This provides some additional left-right movement for the header pipe and prevents header from loosening or breaking.
