What is the maximum safe discharge current that one can use for NiMH batteries ? 1C ? 1/2C ?

Thanks,
Craig.

It is governed more by the ability of the positive tab (internal) to carry the current.

On AA cells this is around 20 amps, for Cs sizes much higher 40-60 amps for short periods.

Red, I meant for cycling the pack, not for general use. What is the safe discharge current to use when cycling ? I have been using 1C or less, and 1C for charging.

Thanks,
Craig.

The maximum safe current is just that. In practise you can't use AA NiMH cells at anywhere near 20A because the voltage drops way too low.

If you're measuring capacity it makes sense to use the rate that you will actually be using but bear in mind that if you discharge A-size cells at say 10A you will measure lower capacity than if you do the discharge at a lower current. I think the manufacturers typically use C/5 for their measurements though Red can correct me if I'm wrong.
