Hi,

I have a big wicker basket that I need to make open by radio control by tomorrow. We're going to release a flock of doves at a wedding- but I would like for the basket to open automatically. It's a pretty big basket- it's basically a laundry hamper that I'm going to flip on it's side. The side that opens to release the birds needs to open by falling towards the ground. It pretty much just falls down and opens by itself due to its own weight. So I need to figure out a way to keep it closed, and then somehow trigger it to open from a distance.
I would really appreciate any suggestions and ideas anybody has on how I can go about making something!

Thank you!
Leanna

Leanna sometimes just opening the door won't make them fly out as a flock. You could open that door though via RC though if you just close the door using a piece of string with a loop on the end, and put that loop over a servo arm in the upright position. Then just move the servo arm using an RC controller to the horizontal position and the string loop will just slide off it, thus letting the door down. Now whether that will cause the birds to all fly out of it is another matter. If I wanted a flock of doves to fly away, I'd have a really big wide lid on a really shallow basket, then open the lid and give them a shove upwards, all manually. Good luck.

Hi Leanna, Tom's got the right idea, you just need to make sure your door loop dosent slide down over servo arm hub. Stick a screw in servo arm hole so string cant slide down. It wont take much of a shake to get all the birds to fly out so make a cardboard bottom that the birds will sit on and run a strong string from about one third up the side of the door back to the back edge of the cardboard. Leave enogh slack so the door will open enough to use the doors weight to pull up on the card. Anything the string can pull forward to start the birds out of the basket. Let us know how it turns out!!! Good Luck!!
