Wish I could give up working!

Anyways, it's 6:45 pm PST and I'm turning on the camera.

Some progress.... With less than 12 days to go till race time, I'll be burning the midnight oil for awhile. However, looks like the plane will be in primer Wed or Thurs if all goes well. Next weekend is bad because I'm running a huge R/C airshow which is gobbling up a lot of time right now.

So, if you haven't been watching our lil ol webcam for building progress (http://www.luvaraairracing.com/cam.html), here's a pic of the plane with a little putty waiting to dry. Then it's time to sand, and throw the primer on.

Well, no photos tonight because all you would see is a fine mist of green spot putty everywhere and no major changes. Spent the evening (morning? - it's 1:15am now in CA!) doing sanding and fine detail work. Added the hinges and hatch latch to the rear scoop, glued in last servo mount for fuse, soldered and mounted tailwheel, sanded some more, filled, and now it's time for bed. May get the plane in primer tomorrow (today - tonight , lol). If not, Thurs for sure. Phone here has been ringing off of the hook because of our upcoming R/C club airshow this weekend (averages 1000 people per day!) so I've been distracted a little. Should make it though!

Tick, tick, tick... the clock's a movin' and we're getting there with the latest Tsunami. As of last night at midnight, it was within 1/2 hour of prep to primer... However, I am teeter tottering on adding a clear canopy to this model. If I do, I spend about 2 hours between pulling it and installation. If I do, I most likely can't primer it tonight. Sat and Sun are more or less shot except for Sat eve 5-9pm. My plan is to lay down the first coat of paint and trim on Monday. Tuesday, the plane would go to the airbrush guy and get the famous Tsunami tidalwave airbrushed on. Tues eve or Wed, clear. Radio installation thurs-fri and test flight Sat.... Race sunday... am I nuts?

Progress tonight.. Molded the canopy, glued it in, and are now heading back out to put some filler down.

Canopy on plug all pulled down. I use the old school method where I attach the butyrate it to some wood with staples, heat it up over the stove and then pull it down over the plug. Works ok for a low volume deal.

Here's the servo layout in the fuse.. I had a real neat mount built for the throttle and retract servos (minis), but the way I glued it with the retract setup made the retract servo sit in front where the throttle servo needed to go. Would have worked fine on the other side of the fuse! I had to cut it in half and split them apart. Oh well.

Was a VERY long weekend, but at the end, managed to get my Tsunami in primer. Had to run an airshow that drew 1500 people over two days and I'm drained. I got the fuselage primered tonight though!

Chris's is doing really well. His is the third to fly out of the molds. It's proving valuable as a testbed for some experiments and has given us improvement and ideas for my model. One was the fact that the rudder on the plane was about 1/4" further back (meaning I pushed the hingeline back on his) and I had already cut mine out bigger. This is working out good because we're finding that with the four strokes and our carbon prop (14 pitch), the torque is amazing on takeoff and even go arounds! When I ran that prop on two strokes, it was not as bad... We've also found how far we can move the C.G. back safely. Having the laminar wing for speed does have its quarks, but with flaps for landing, it seems very good.

Hopefully, I can get to finish sand and paint it tonight, take it to the airbrush guy tomorrow and have the scale tidalwave put on. Then I'll clear it Tues or Wed and be all set!

We are using Sikkens paint. The color codes that we are using are from Mercedes colors. The red we just sprayed was 365, which is Magma Red. We are going to add Horizon blue tommorow.

On my airplane we used Polar White, and Tectite gray.
