If you find anything, let us all know where. Last speed record I saw was less than 250mph. That was before folks R/Cd jets, but it was still in effect last year, so a 300mph plane sounds sorta interesting.

(Personally, I always got a kick out of the fact that the 240-plus record was set without a jet -- and without any other kind of engine or motor.)

Did you guys know the RC speed record is held by a plane with no engine at all? It was reached by a slope plane, I believe the speed was around 245 mph.

Jets are breaking 250mph daily, AMA just wont let them be used for speed runs... Jets ARE the fastest.

Actually... its the record rules (which have been in effect for 30 or 40 years) that keep the jets out. And its not that TURBINES are excluded... its the weight of the aircraft. 11 lbs max at takeoff. Get a good high speed turbine model that can make the weight and then it can compete for the record.

Other things have had effect on the actual records setting process... You have to go through a set length "course" and the rules say it MUST be that one length. There was a record denied (247 mph or something close) in the late 1970's for a glider, denied because he had a short course, and used the wrong timing method. (but the timing method was considered better than required... and they may have allowed the record if the course length was right.)

There was a late 1970's altitude record of OVER 37,000 ft (7 miles) denied because the plane had a modified engine. (rules said off the shelf engine, and he hand made a turbo for it.)

AND its not just AMA rules... its international rules. The NAA (US authority for ALL aviation records, full scale and models) and FAI (international aviation competition and records authority) set some of these limits as early as... 1920.

ftp = file transfer protocol - a means of getting your files posted to your website.
