This is what happens when you get tired of building airplanes and there is 10" of snow on the ground. This was a T.L.A.R. (that looks about right) build so there are no precise measurements on anything. It does however go like crazy on the hard packed snow and the 6" of new fluff we got yesterday.

Sweet! I'm building a snow machine also. Mine is more airboat style, but the same type of craft as yours. I'm also going to have a V-tail type of rudder system. I started on it about 2 months ago, and haven't touched it for a while. But, the snow is falling again in Montana, so I think I'll work on it again and finish it up. Is there anything a guy CAN'T make out of coroplast?

We didn't start building until 10pm on Friday and by 12am it was being tested. It goes fast and furious with 2 people working on a project with some head-butting now and then about design. Which makes the out come more fun! It was tested first with just the upside-down wheel pants/ no coro belly, it didn't go, just as I thought. No big deal because the belly pan was pre-made and installed for the next run which worked great. The V-tail was not really in the plans but when it came out that way it looked good. I'm still having a hard time not turning on the V-tail mix on the radio for a bit of up elevator for that deep powder.

Roger that. I plan on using a V-Tail mix for more stability. I'm also toying with an idea for an elevator in front of the center of gravity, that will be controlled mostly with trim. I've heard airboats have a tendency to flip backwards, when air gets under them. I believe a V-Tail and elevator will let me counteract any nasty tendencies. I had a buddy cut me an engine mount out of aluminum. It turned out good. I'll get some pics posted tonight of my progress.

Ran it some more today on open ground. We had a lift off, followed by a fast loop, then landed on it's feet, and was still going strong. This stupid thing is a lot of fun.

Deadeye,
Your unit is much more detailed than ours! That should be fun and should float to. Did you make it for water also? Ours were made just for snow. What do you use to glue the coro to the foam? What engine are you using. Looks awesome.

twostroker, thanks for the compliments. But mine is taking days to build instead of hours. It'll probably be spring before I'm ready to rod mine in the snow. I use polyurethane glue to glue coro to foam (or coro to wood for that matter). Simply woodpecker both surfaces to glue, and mist liberally with water. Apply glue, join surfaces, pull apart and mist again with water. Clamp in place, let dry overnight (or at least 4-6 hours). It foams up nicely filling gaps along the way. With coroplast, it seeps into the woodpecker holes, expands and dries to form thousnads of tiny rivets. You'll never break the glue joint without first tearing the coro. Some pics of last night:

The coroplast will wrap around the foam/wood structure, and will be one of the last steps I do. I built the rudders last night, and can start mounting radio gear anytime. I was going to use a TT 61 to power the thing, but may break in my Tower 75 on it instead. I actually have clearance for a 15 inch prop, but a Saito 100 may be overkill on this. Target weight is 5-6 pounds. The sponson tips should prove to be a challenge. Not sure how I will do those.

Deadeye,
Just finished another one today with v-tail mix. It will be tested tonight at the club meeting so I let you know later if it was worth the extra effort.
