I am waiting for the plans to arrive for a 117" wingspan Airtruk. I ordered the plans from Slipstream Models in New Zealand. I plan to start cutting as soon as the plans arrive and hope to have the plane flying by the summer of 2005.

Does anyone have any photos of this plane? I have a few but it would be great to have more before I decide on a paint scheme.

This is my first scratch build attempt. Does anyone have any advice on how to get started or any other tips (i.e. what covering methods would best suit a project like this)?

I definitely want to use a gasser for this project. Any suggestions? I was thinking of something around the 50cc range.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Jim

Kingair41,

Leo was nice enough to post a picture. The one below is the Airtruk in action during a Mad Max film.

The Slipstream Models does not have a website but you can reach Des Taylor at slipstream_models@clear.net.nz.

Cheers

Does anyone know if Des is still in business? I send and email for Airtruk drawings about 2 weeks ago, and still had no reply. Does anyone have a set of plans for sale?

Well, just went ahead and make an indepth investment and called to down south NZ. From my location in Europe, exactly 12 hrs time shift, they live in the future (whereas US is 6-9 hrs behind us...)
Nice guy, Des Taylor. Website at http://www.slipstreammodels.co.nz/ but the email is wrong, should be slipstream_models@clear.net.nz.

Next, we order the plans...

So, how much are the plans? Their website doesn't show anything, not the the old New Zealand Aero Products, or whatever it was....

I sent an email, hopefully hear back, and I will have the plans as soon as I can...

Man, what a plane!!!!!!

R

To all who have the NZAP Skyfarmer plans,
Came across this site just by chance and didn't have any clue to how many other fellow modelers were building this incredible aircraft. I acquired my plans from NZAP some 12 years ago for around $75 and tell you it has been a journey on the road to build this one as this type of scratch build. If you received the plans and have started, completed or already flying, then I congratulate you. I started on mine o' around 1996 and have spontaneously building and then setting it aside. Most of the work was done early on such as the purchase of a Supertigre 3250 and contacting Century Jet Models about having custom manufactured landing gear machined out (outstanding when attached and ruggedly functional). I have a pic showing a majority of the construction but have put in quite a few hours in since this photo was taken and getting antsy to start airdropping grass seed on the flying field.

I investigated those plans from NZ. With shipping, CUSTOMS, etc, figure about $400 - $500.

You may want to contact Frank J. Marcie Jr. ( fmarcie@accd.edu ). He will draw up a set of plans from a 3 view for ABOUT $15 per foot of model wingspan. I had him do up a set of plans for the Airtruk in a 40 size.

My plans are for the passenger version, not the crop duster version. The plans are CAD drawn and very good. I have only run into a couple of minor items during construction, and I don't think these would be present in a larger model (minor clearance problems with the main wing hold down bolts and the canopy )
